  • Comments Thread For: Wilder: I Hope I Face Klitschko Sometime Next Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Deontay Wilder used a flurry of head shots to finally subdue Johann Duhaupas, stopping him 55 seconds into the 11th round to successfully defend his WBC heavyweight title Saturday night.

Duhaupas suffered a cut on the bridge of his nose in the first round, and after that Wilder (35-0) worked almost exclusively on the Frenchman’s face and head.

He's not ready for Klitschko. Realistically the guy should have another year or two of development time.

so this is the new style now?? win a title thru the back door then develop??? that is supposed to happen BEFORE you win a title not after. Klit should fight him next KO him then retire

He's got the title so now he has to meet his mandatory obligations.

If I were managing him , though, I wouldn't have gone for the belt yet. Better to slowly increase his level of opposition so he can learn and sharpen his tools. It's good that he showed an inside game yesterday but how much better would it be if he got to refine those skills a little bit?

Unfortunately for Wilder he isn't playing in the minor leagues.

Negotiations have to start in November. If they don't reach a deal it goes to purse bid.
