i consider any coach who says this lacking. of course it's a proper punch. some have used it to remarkable success ... chad dawson and juanma lopez come to mind ... and even GGG does it out of the orthodox stance.

If you feel like you're going to rip your shoulder then yeah something about your right hook isn't proper

How is it not a proper punch? What does that even mean?

If it doesnt feel right throwing it at long range, only throw it in close. You dont have to be able to throw every punch in the book.

In order to land, against an opponent that isn't upclose, people throw a looping right hand which can leave you off balance and open.

I have heard this before. From an orthodox stance it is more awkward to throw than a left hook.

More awkward in a theoretical world where boxers stood directly in front of each other with no lateral movement perhaps. In real life there are times when a guy is right there for the right hook.
