  • I don't have him #1 on my list but he doesn't need to move weight classes to prove his worth as a #1.

Just because you fight in a weak division doesn't mean you can't be #1. It's not his fault the other guys he's fighting aren't considered top fighters every day. And even if he was to face top fighters who are in/near the p4p rankings, he'd probably beat them anyway.

    • he's already moved up twice.

he was strawweight then light flyweight.

he moved from light flyweight to flyweight barely 2-3 yrs ago.

he already has titles in 3 divisions.

sure he'll move again before his career is done.

P4P is not just about resume.

it's also about skills or writer/voter perception of skills.

also how good you look in wins.

nor do you have to move up several divisions to be P4P.

Seeing how you deal with the shave against the grain against bigger guys in the divisions above you certainly helps and will boost the P4P rankings and that arguably one of the big reasons why Manny Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of this era.

I agree with what people are saying Gonzalez is clearly a very great figher but P4P #1 over guys like Wladimir who has nearly peaked some of the most iconic records set in the division?
P4P is anything you want to make it really but you can't ignore achievements no matter how badly some want to.

              THEN MOVE THE F UP.

Sick and tired of these he's "ultra god mode uber talented" "wow look at his slick ass slickness" "hansel he's so hot right now he's p4p #1 in 3 sites who pretend they watch 112 pounders and not steal rankings from actual boxing sites that actually watch 112 pounders" hipster boxing fans.

YOU CANNOT NAME A FIGHTER #1 OVERALL P4P4 when he weighs less than Amy Whinehouse's decrepit over dosed corpse.

              Sorry, you just cant.

Most boxing fans have not seen or heard of this guy and he fights in a utterly weak division. You cannot just leapfrog guys who have FOUGHT AND BEATEN BONA FIDE fighters who are better, more notable than Roman Gonzalez's best wins.

Do you seriously want to reward guys who just stay in one division where its devoid of great fighters for their whole careers when they have the PHYSICAL ABILITY, TECHNICAL TALENT, AND OVERALL GREATNESS to compete at higher weight classes vs notable fighters????

              I like Roman Gonzalez.
              I like Ricardo Lopez.

But they hid out at low ass weights were there are no real great fighters instead of moving up and making AN EFFORT to make fights vs other fighters.

Rigo is great enough to fight at 126.
Ward is great enough to fight at 175.
Roman Gonzalez is great enough to fight above rawandan refugee weight division.

IF THESE GUYS ARE SO GREAT, SO FILLED WITH OMNISCIENT BOXING GOD TALENT, WHY NOT MOVE UP????
              You're a moron.

                    • You want him to move up until he gets to Super Lightweight and faces Crawford?

He dominates the best guys in each division with precision and a great amount of skill. Its not that he's KOing guys that he's skillful but the way he moves, shifts his weight, and creates leverage on his punches in an aggressive manner etc. that help people rate him so highly. Not to mention he takes time to defend the belt in the division.

Then the writers/fans/officials will compare Gonzalez's fight to fights like Mayweather-Guerrero, Klitschko-Povetkin, Pacquiao-Rios, and Rigondeaux-Donaire.. whatever tips the balance in their favor and collectively I assume they agree to place Gonzalez as #1.

You want him to just skyrocket in weight and I don't think that's reasonable because it takes these fighters a lot of work to get down to fighting condition. Otherwise we would just have him jump through divisions in consecutive fights to fight:

                      Inoue - Super Flyweight
                      Yamanaka - Bantamweight
                      Rigondeaux - Super Bantamweight
                      Lomachenko - Featherweight

Gonzalez will probably end his career at Bantamweight.
