Trainer Freddie Roach is hoping five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) continues to fight.

Mayweather announced his retirement following the September 12th twelve round decision victory over Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Roach admits to having selfish reasons for wanting Mayweather to stick around - because Roach wants WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto to get a second shot at Mayweather's undefeated record.

I honestly don't see Mayweather revisiting a fight with Cotto at this point in time. He is an opportunist and will only fight when the time is right for him. Cotto is looking too good for Floyd to want to fight him again. He'd probably fight him if he somehow got beat up by Canelo, yet got the gift decision win. Then Floyd would come out to fight him. If Cotto looks sensational, he will stay retired.

What I really take from Roach's comments are "I hope Floyd gives Cotto a rematch because he might actually have a chance at winning." Roach knows Pacquiao would get embarrassed (even worse) in a rematch with Mayweather.

Mayweather vs Cotto II rematch would be interesting but people would STILL find a way to criticize the matchup.

He was trained by Pedro Diaz at the time. He still had Phil Landman as his S&C coach as well.
