I dont think it was a lack of confidence. I believe it wAs his lack of a trainer. Cotto fired his uncle ( his biggest blunder ) and hired his assistant to train him. It was pitiful to watch. He wasn't properly trained for paq and had no direction in his corner. I blame Cotto though. He fired his Uncle over money issues and was to cheap to hire another good one. The azz whoopin he got was what deserved. He learned. I UNderstand he's paying roach AND his conditioning coach. He's been doing well ever since and I expect the same against Canelo. I UnderstNd his competitoin hasn't been great since hiring roach but what I can definitively say about Cotto is that he's llooked excellent and has reverted back to his original style. This Canelo fight well tell us a lot. Can't wait to witness it.

It was a combination of 4 things imho, 2 of which you mentioned.

      * it was " that Pac "..... and yep, not sure what happened to him..... I would rather not go there

      * " Cotto lacking confidence after the Margarito fight "..... that fight really took it out of him, both physically and mentally, Cotto has never been the same

      * the catchweight, Cotto paid the price, especially late in the fight

      * Personal/training issues - he had a real messy breakup with Evan Cotto, along with other personal issues..... along with a very poor camp where Miguel essentially trained himself

          That is true, good post.

But I dont think that was the most significant factor.

Cotto was an established vet even back then.

Lack of a good corner is likely more relevant then the preparation.

Not downplaying the need for a good trainer.

          * the " super " version of Pac was the main problem
          * the Margarito beating took a lot from Cotto, it really fcuked him up
          * the personal/training issues that you mentioned
          * the catchweight

haha roach is super confident but hes the trainer so hes gonna talk ****...all trainer talk smack

this fight really baffles me as i cannot pick a clear winner. favorite has to be canelo due to his youth but its funny as both men like to **** and trade shots. im split!..

im a huge cotto fan so i have to back my boy but the closer we get to the fight and the more i think about it, the more confused i get.

i think canelo is a ****in beast and if his conditioning is good, itll be bad for cotto. ginger has a steel beard for a chin.

YO I just realized Roach is also training Viloria. Plus I think he was training Provodnikov for most of the camp up to Matthysse.

Dam bruh... Roach might need to put on suicide watch at the end of the upcoming wave of fights.

EDIT: AND Zou Shiming lost to Ruenrong? Jeez. L's all over the place.

                  - Im sure Roach knows what he is doing, he is all about his fighters, He brought Cotto back by giving him good fights(not hard fights) where he can exercise what he has learned with Roach. Which is why I think Cotto has a very good chance at beating Canelo, but man to bet your house on it?..thats crazy.

A yes thanks for reminding me of the catch weight. I was very debilitating. I distinctly recall the 24/7. It made the point of cotto no eating and starving himself to make the weight. Cotto looked really uncomfortable having to skip meals while his crew was eating. Meanwhile they cut to manny and a showing struggling to eat because he was on like an 8 thousand calorie diet.

It obvious who is going to be In the better condition and have the better training camp. Cotto was training undernourished while paq had all the fuel he needed.

Further cotto was already having issues with 147. Another 2 pounds when your ripped and barely making 147 is very hard. Cotto paid the price.

Excellent point about the corner. Cotto did very well, all things considered, for the first few rounds. After he got dropped his corner was incompetent. All Cotto really had to do was stick his excellent jab in paqs face and follow up. No direction did play a critical role.
