Less belts, organisations and focus on past glories. Too many fighters in this era being moved around like boxing pawns, just look at DSG's ranking after fighting no one at 147. So many people on boxing's payroll these days. Does Al Haymon advise fighters for their benefit or his?

Rocky didn't need to be compared to Floyd and I'm just saying what I feel, but surely Rocky's era was harder to make a name for yourself?

Rock was known for his record, not purses, gates or self promotion. This is not a dig at Floyd, but it is what it is Dan and Floyd can't be compared to other eras when the majority of us weren't around.

Well the record is Marciano's. Nobody cares about the 2nd guy who ran a 4 minute mile. Floyd's resume and accomplishments are obviously superior, but those calling Marciano a bum should be ip banned. Permanently.

12 rd sparring sessions is what Floyd is known for. "Ya'll know how Floyd fights" is a common theme here in boxingscene when a conversation comes up about his watchability. Floyd will be forgotten, reduced to a whim in boxing conversation. Why? He did nothing memorable. Nothing. Unless you call that pac-Floyd fight a milestone. There is a reason Marciano is talked about 60-70 years later. There's a reason Archie Moore, Ali, and Louis are still being talked about. Floyd can't hold a candle to these guys.

Agreed, but there are a lot more influential people who aren't fighters these days, but still influence the system. When a boxer feels he is bigger than the sport people should be taking them to task. The problem I have with today's rankings is the fighters earning potential putting them higher than their skill set.

Fighters have always been exploited for managers/promoters benefit, but these days the fans are the ones being further exploited by the fighters with clothing lines etc, which they feel is a sign of success.

The ranking system will only be as good as the fighters who are current, which unfortunately seems to be enhanced by media coverage and the legendary "0" factor at the moment. Rocky's era laid the foundations for today's boxers, which has been built on through each successive generation as promoters become salesmen and networks choose fights based on bottom line rather than skills (predominantly in the last two decades).

Different opinions at the end of the day, which is what keeps the forums interesting but fans are always the ones left wanting.
