I had to do (a catchweight) at this particular time and anyone who wants to fight me must accept a catchweight or otherwise there is no fight,” Cotto (39-4, 32 knockouts) said during a recent conference call to discuss his fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

ay cotto,,it's his way or get the f*&* out of the way and next opponent

True... imo shit like this will keep happening until they bring back same day weigh ins.

I'm speaking about boxing as a whole. Not just Cotto's situation.

Same day weigh in's need to be brought back. It's becoming ridiculous when a fighter comes into the ring 2 weight classes above the weight class limit that he is campaigning at. Either that or implement a rehydration clause of no more than 5-7lbs above their weigh in weight.

Im a big supporter of same-day weigh ins.

But dont forget that if there were same-day weigh ins 10 years ago Cotto never wins a title at 140

Same day weigh-ins and rehydration clauses aren't going to do anything because the fights aren't going to canceled no matter what happens.

Dont cancel them. Impose a a fine so huge (85% or so of the fighter purse) that it would discourage any fighter to miss weight.

Are you aware of any recent studies comparing health risks of same-day vs. day-before weigh-ins? Not to play Captain Obvious here, but the reasons for going to "day-before" weigh-ins were health-related -- boxing decided, more or less, that fighter health was more important than the "intergrity" of the weight class. If "day-before" weigh-ins are actually NOT beneficial from a health perspective, then maybe we go back to same-day. Until there is credible scientific data supporting on the health front, no one is going back to same-day.

MW is from 154.01 - 160. Since when it is mandatory to weigh in at the absolute limit? Its the MW division not the 160lb division.
I think when you force other 160 lb fighters down to fight for the title it becomes an issue. When he or Canelo asks GGG to come down to 155 it will be ridiculous fighting for the Lineal title..

The risk is when a guy like quillen gains 19lbs overnight and almost kills an overmatched opponent. Same when Gatti fought Gamache... These guys obviously kill themselves to make a weight they have an advantage in...
