Keith Thurman: I'll be impressed if Brook stops Chaves

Fighters give Chaves more credit than fans.

Nothing special, but a solid WW and a tough guy to beat.

Quite the far cry from his nick name.

Their whole selling point with this fight is "the guy who drew with Bradley".

So, does Thurman being impressed by your performance make up for having one real name out soon to be 36 opponents on your resume?

Step in the right direction I suppose but Chaves is nothing to write home about. Really he is just a high end gatekeeper who has lost handily everytime he has stepped up in class.

Very disappointed in Brook. He should of been targeting Mayweather, Manny even a Bradley or Marquez not taking steps back. He will end up going stagnant at this rate.

I don't understand why he is being protected does his team know something?
This is something I'd expect from a team who have little faith in their fighter.
They're milking this strap Braehmer style!

I give him a pass for fighting whoever it was after his injury but Gavin is **** and now Chaves? He ain't much better. By the time this fights done with and all that its going to be almost 2 years practically wasted.

You can't sit and blame Khan forever. Brook needs to get on with his career and fight meaningful opposition.

Kell is a good fighter and deserves better opposition than this. I mean he did beat Porter in his country who is a tremendous champion, so he is certainly a talented fighter and has heart (Carson Jones 1). Chaves is a poor man's Lovemore N'dou who is always in tough fights, but loses and at least N'dou somehow got a hold of a belt. Unfortunately Brook's whole career has been built around cashing out on a Khan fight.

It is funny how they never got around fighting Bradley back when he got a gift over Pacquiao, surely that was doable provided Kell was WBO mandatory, but suddenly it was all about goin fru wiv the IBeyF root.

He was stopped by Thurman - He was not beaten handily by Bradley. That was a very close back-and-forth fight.

A fight with Bradley was offered according to Hearn, but they couldn't make it work with lack of PPV dates, but if both win, he says he'll make it in Spring.

Neither of the guys you mention were available.

I agree Chaves is not the best, but which fighter could he realistically have fought that's better than him or higher ranked?

Poor man's lovemore n'dou? wtf did I just read. Waayy underrestimating him. People had easy times with N'dou - Who had an easy time with Chaves?

Brook was never mandatory for Bradley's WBO belt. He was mandatory in 2010 when Pacquiao was champion. No chance of WBO ever enforcing a mandatory with Pacquiao as a champion - which is why he went IBF route. Because they enforce mandatories.

Now, he was offered a fight against Bradley for peanuts in the states and rematch options + co-promotion options with top rank. Stinky deal.

Now he can fight Bradley on PPV in March in his home town for a 50-50 deal and a unification fight.

Quite a good move I'd say.

I felt Bradley won that fight close but clear. To tell the truth I am not entirely sure who is available I haven't really been following boxing much at all for the past 3-4 months or so but there has to be better than Chaves. Thurman, maybe held out for Manny or Danny Garcia?

There has to be somebody a bit better than this fringe contender, he has just had two tune ups already.

Chaves is a world class loser. He is like a good, high end gatekeeper. I think he maybe a little more tricky for Brook than Rios but I feel both fights are rubbish.
                  Chaves does nothing for me.
                  Who has he even beat?
He may as well be rematching Hector David Saldivia.

I find it hugely disappointing after following Brook for so long when he beat Porter I was over the moon for the kid. I wanted to see him in super fights!
Manny, Khan, Floyd, Marquez, Bradley. I think he belongs in that company, in fact I honestly believe he'd beat them all but Floyd.
3 defenses now against opponents who are a far cry from world level.

After this fight I am genuinely expecting another bogus defense against a 90yr old Mosley or something.
I've totally lost faith in Brook and his team.

I think he beats anybody but Floyd but I'm not sure he or his team feel that way and seem to be a bit reluctant to fight legitimate opposition.

It isn't just Brook though most of these WWs seem to want it easy.
