This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather Jr. matched the 60-year-old record of heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.

Mayweather raised his record to 49-0 by winning an easy twelve round unanimous decision over Andre Berto.

Rocky Marciano Jr. would have preferred to see a heavyweight match the record instead of a welterweight. Ricardo "Finito" Lopez retired with a record of 51-0-1(there is a draw so probably that won't count) & Chavez Sr went 87-0 before getting a draw against Whitaker & didn't retire undefeated.

If it's about retiring undefeated with no draws & comparing Marciano's 49-0 to Floyd's 49-0, Floyd's Floyd's is much more impresive.
In Marciano's 49 fights only 7 were world title fights(against 5 fighters) & the only known fighters(champs & exchamp) on Marciano's record are Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore & Ezzard Charles & out of those 4 mentioned, 3 were old & way past their prime cause Louis came out of retirement cause of economic reason's & wasn't even the shadow of what he once was, Walcott was about to retire the 2 times he fought Marciano & Moorer was already up in age when he won the "lightheavy weight title" so imagine when he fought Marciano at heavyweight. The only one some what still in his prime was Charles & in the 1st fight many thought Charles won.
Now in Floyd's 49 fights 26 were world title fights & between champions & exworld champions Floyd fought 24 & 3 were undefeated(Corales, Hatton & Canelo) 2 are already in the hall of fame(De La Hoya & Gatti) & so far 4 are sure candidates(Marquez, Mosley, Cotto & Pacquiao)

7 championship fights is the least number of championship fights among atg great heavweights and many can argue that these 7 fights were against fighters who were well past it, even Charles had already had 100 fights and he started as a middleweight.

Marciano was good, but not top 10 all time heavyweight in my book, and his record doesn't hold much value to me tbh, that's why I don't care about nobody breaking his record, Ricardo Lopez shattered the record imo with a record of 51-0-1, 23-0-1 in championship fightd, by far the best minimum weight of all times and it's not even close.

I rank Marciano as the best white American heavyweight ever and the best heavyweight of the mid-early 50s, but that's about it.
