Comments Thread For: Floyd Mayweather Sr. Cautions His Son About Returning

LAS VEGAS - Should Floyd Mayweather's boxing career now be over, as the undefeated American insisted after easily beating Andre Berto in their welterweight showdown on Saturday, his place among the sport's very best is assured.

He will certainly be remembered as one of the greatest defensive practitioners of all time because of his remarkable ability to stay away from danger in the ring, right up there with fighters such as Pernell Whitaker and Willie Pep.

I agree. Jr. can't take 2 years off now and think that he will be back in top form. Especially if he decides to make a mega fight with GGG. I doubt he fights someone that big, but if he does, he need to secure a May 2016 fight for him. Number 50 against GGG would be great. Win or lose, Jr. would get much respect for taking the fight.

That's true, Paul Williams talked about retiring before the Martinez 2 fight. He said he's almost done, he has a couple more years, he said like in 2- years he is out. Once you start talking about retirement that's the end for you. Williams then got KO'ed brutally by Martinez, followed by a schooled by Lara which he undeservedly won. And there are so many instances where fighters start talking about retirement talk and how they are bored or whatever, then their performances start going downhill.

If floyd wants to fight again, he better fight next year instead of waiting 2 or 3 years.

All this build up for excuses as to why he's gonna fight again. Now he's being advised to do it "right away" no one believed Pedcheater was retiring anyway so why the charades?

If his heart isn't in it anymore then he's stepping away at the right time. I hope he stays firm on this decision and doesn't rethink it after he has rested up/recharged for a few months.

Floyd's heart hasn't been in it for a long time.

Since 2011 if I had to guess.

But he's slipped so much since then, that's a dangerous combination when you're heart isn't in it and you're well wel passed it.

Deinitelt a perfect time to retire.

he's not retiring, Dan....he's gonna take some time then change his mind and the bidding war between HBO and Showtime will happen to see who airs his 50th fight
