It doesn't matter. He has ruined what would've been a HUGE unification bout with James Degale next year. It is absolutely gut wrenching for some including me.
That Froch right hand has taken everything from Groves.
I'm not sure that's the case. I just think his limitations have caught up with him.
Watching this fight, he looked like he did in the first Froch fight the difference was that he was going up against a more technical fighter. Now I'm not saying Jack is a better fighter than Froch, but he has more technique and he can fight on the inside better than Froch.
Those body attacks by Jack were the difference maker in the fight. All that elevation training pretty much did nothing for Groves as he slowed down tremendously from round 7 on.
The good news for him is that there is still one champion that holds a belt in that weight class and that's Arthur Abraham, who imo is the worst champion from 154-175. That's his only chance at a title. The bad news is that Arum wants his guy Ramirez to get a shot at Abraham first. So it'll be a race to Abraham.
Take away the knockdown and the three point swing it made for in an opening round Groves was otherwise winning and it would have been a drawn fight with the 115-112 judge's card instead reading 114-114. That would have been the best George deserved in my book, but he was knocked down and over the whole piece the right guy got his hand raised. for sure. Good fight. Good effort by Groves. Just not enough. Credit to Jack. Most of what he did, at range and up close, was effective and he showed excellent composure in there. He's a good bit better than I for one had thought he was.

I had it 114-114 Groves but swing a couple of those rounds for Jack and I can see it being a Jack win. In all honesty, beyond the points system, I just don't think Groves did good enough, often enough, to warrant a world title win.
Credit to Jack, good jab, solid right hand.
But a lot of people on here are acting like Groves got hammered, the guy won his fair share of rounds, hit Jack with sweet right hands and some damn good upper cuts. But Jack stayed composed and managed to just about hang onto his world title.
A good, close fight between two evenly matched opponents. I can't see why Groves can't have another go round or a DeGale rematch before DeGale unifies.
What I found most damaging is Groves's trainer said he was 3 mins away from winning the belt before the 12th round. Forget what other fight that happened but that is simply un-acceptable and deluded advice.
