To be perfectly honest, no disrespect to Bute and his team, but they've sat back and they've fought B-level and C-level guys and he did what he was supposed to do," said Ward, failing to grasp that Bute wasn't invited to the Super Six and had no A-level opponents available to him. "He stopped them and he's gotten them out of there. But he's just been sitting back, waiting, while we've been fighting for the past two and a half years against top-level competition. So I don't have to go to Lucian Bute right now,"
In mid 2013 Ward rejected an offer to fight Stevenson in Oakland at 168 and in Montreal at 175. Despite coming off a 1st round KO over Dawson, Ward said Stevenson won't get a shot until he has won some big fights.

    Cherry picks: Pavlik, Smith.
Attempted cherry picks: Truax, Sartison, Dunn, Agnew at 168, Oosthuizen at 168 and Chavez - right after his loss to Martinez.
Chavez is busting out of 160, he's coming to 168. If he comes to 168 then I think we should see each other. I think that's a mega, mega fight the fans will want to see. ... I'm going to tell you this: Chavez Jr is not an easy fight. A lot of people say [it's easy] but that's not an easy fight. He's a big kid, he's a strong kid and he can punch."

And he was proven 100% correct.

Ward told Bute to fight a top 10 contender and prove himself.

Bute dutifully did as he was told, and got folded like a deckchair.

      Ward was 100% correct.

You guys fell for the hype, Ward didn't, and neither did I.

Ward never fought Pavlik, that was Hopkins.

Ward claimed SMW Bute was all hype and told him to prove himself.
Ward claims MW Golovkin is hype but he'll fight him.
Ward never asked Rodriguez or Smith to get a win over a top 10 SMW before he agreed to fight them. Hmmmmmmm....

Ward signed to fight Pavlik, then pulled out when he injured is vagina.

        • Interesting-the keeping you off balance bit.

I've always liked Paul Smith, I remember hoping he'd find a way to derail James Degale. Smith is no world beater, but hell he's fought Ward, Abraham, Groves, and Degale now. Not too shabby.

Ward won an Olympic Gold Medal, fighting above his natural weight.

Ward signed to fight in a knockout tourney, taking on all comers.

Ward won the tourney, and was crowned #1 SMW and #2 P4P.

Hypekin has never done anything like that.

Wards credibility is not in question.

Bute's credibility was in question..... and Golovkins credibility still is..... so good luck trying to pick holes in Wards resume.

You say that Ward never asked Rodriguez or Smith to get a win over a top 10 SMW, and attempted to use that as proof that Ward ducked that hypejob Bute..... well, Golovkin was willing to fight Froch/Chavez at 168, but then flatly refused to fight Andre Ward at 168..... so if you want consistent standards across the board then maybe you need to have a word with Golovkin.

He says Ward is great at shutting down opponents and keeping them from doing their thing... and cites Abraham and Froch as examples... 2 fighters who are/were notorious for having trouble with slick boxers. He also says you have to be slick and slippery to beat Kov. So what is BHop if not slick and slippery? Granted, he's an old fighter, but still... Kov flat out shut him down easily. Jackson dialed up the right fight plan and Kov stuck with it to the letter. And he would do the same vs Ward. Kov has the whole package. Sure he can be hit, but so can Ward. Anyone remember the flush punch Froch landed toward the last rounds? If that would've been Kov, Ward's lights would've went out. End of story. This will be a great fight that will go Ward's way for just a little bit here and there. Kov will know what Jackson has taught him, and will follow instructions at near perfection. He will give Ward his first stoppage loss, late rounds.
Bernard Hopkins, basically fighting in cement, was able to extend Kovalev the full twelve rounds, still standing on his feet when he completely opened up his game in the 12th to fight. A 45 year old Hopkins would've been utter hell for Kovalev.

Andre Ward has near all the tools that Bernard Hopkins has, arguably hits harder (with two healthy arms) and would come in with legs that were nearly 20 years younger.

Kovalev can definitely punch, but Ward isn't going to sit there to let kovalev just tee off.

The Abraham jab was giving him trouble, the Kovalev jab is even better than that. Froch was the opposite of Abraham. I know Ward fans like to think he completely shut-out Froch, but Froch was coming on strong in the second half. Sakio Bika had success as well in an extremely dirty fight and landed like 200 punches on Ward.
Edwin Rodriguez was holding his own, until the referee threaten to DQ him.

Ward getting rocked by a nonpuncher at around 6:40 mark.

Ward is not going to try to box like his fans think. There is no way Ward fights from the outside, he's going to want to hold and smother Kovalev. Kovalev is going to have to man-handle him when ever Ward gets close. Also, make sure it's not the same referee from the Edwin fight, because he'll threaten to DQ Kovalev while allowing Ward to continue with his dirty crap.
... Ward-Kost was literally Ward's second fight as a pro fighter (coming right off of being America's only gold medalist).

Are you really trying to use the guy's second pro fight ever to try and say something? lol

chins usually don't get better. this is why ward holds nonstop. his chin isn't very good. if you remember the smith fight he got slightly rocked and what did he immediately start doing? held and ducked below the waist until he recovered. he's a fraud.

Hopkins didn't have the legs to do anything; hasn't had his legs since at least the Karo Marat fight but you could likely push that back to the Dawson fights.

Ward has near all the craft of Hopkins with the sheer physical gifts to befuddle any fighter (active puncher in his groove, never out of position, good legs, effective of the inside and outside, heavy lead jab/hook)
