Comments Thread For: Farhood: Mayweather Leaving Will Create a Large Hole

The countdown has begun for the final fight of Floyd Mayweather's career. On September 12th, Mayweather (48-0, 26KOs) will defend his WBA/WBC welterweight titles against Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather is claiming that he won't fight beyond the bout with Berto. He is the biggest and most well known fighter in the world, with nobody yet in position to take his star power throne. Manny Pacquiao is second biggest star in boxing and he's a few fights away from retirement as well.

Steve is a fool. Boxing will be fine without Floyd! It was here before Floyd and it will be here after he retires.

lol. They are trying so hard to make this dude out to be some massive force. Once hes gone, boxing will revert back to the best willing to fight the best. Right now, its just a cluster**** of excuses because this clown made them acceptable. There is a reason why Mares vs Santa Cruz became an ESPN instant classic. Because these guys came to fight.

From a skill stand point you won't see anyone nearly as well rounded but there is a lot of talent right now and I'm excited.

Yeah... Once Canelo KO Cotto Nov.21 he'll take the crown from Floyd. No doubt, Nelo and 3G will head the sport of boxing for the next 3-5 yrs. Too bad, we'll never see them match up because when Canelo becomes WBC Middleweight Champ he'll drop the title and fight for the WBC Jr. Middleweight title next yr. there's no reason for Oscar to put him in there with 3G now Nelo still growing give him a few more yrs and he'll be ready for anybody

The funny is part is people all said this about Oscar in his twilight and then May and Pac came along (and Wlad to a lesser extent as well).

actually it will open up new opportunities. people won't be sitting aroud waiting to get the floyd fight(khan especially) and they will try to build their own following. some will try to con the fans with personality like broner and others will try to do it by taking on the best or being in good fights. as fans we can only hope the con-men don't rise to the top but they have the advantage unfortunately.

Agreed! Floyd is highly skilled. But boxing will go on.
