no dunn turned the fight down. ward in the last 3 years has tried to fight caleb truax, marco periban, and dmitri sartison while turning down bute, stevenson, froch, and making no attempts to fight other good fighters.

Lets see ... who are the fighters who are currently most screwing up their careers and wasting precious prime time career? Of the top of my head I have:

Ward
Demetrius Andrade
Rigo
Quillen
Mikey Garcia

Most would consider him top 5 lb 4 lb. He's def not at the bottom of most top 10 lists.

Also, let's clear a misconception . You can't duck someone outside of your weight class. May can't duck ggg, ggg can't duck ward, etc. All you can do is ask a fighter to fight the best in his weight class. If he wants to move up, ok. But fighters should not be accused of ducking bc they actually want to fight in their own weight class. It's ridiculous and only something fanboys do. Real boxing heads don't think that way

It's not that Golovkin is afraid of stepping in a ring with Ward. Like most fighters, he and his team are more afraid of what will happen to the business side of their operation if they take a loss. In the case of GGG it would be worse as his aura of invincibility, and therefore his cachet would disappear. This is more a reflection of the state of boxing in modern times. Go back 25 years and it wasn't such a big deal to take a loss.

I'm quite sure that you have an over-inflated opinion of the importance and indeed the necessity of your opinion on this forum. Rest assured that very few of us would miss you and likewise I am under no illusion that anybody will miss my presence either. Lighten up. I'm here for some very light entertainment and to learn about boxing and boxers.

I think you're hitting the sweet spot of what it really is. Fighters aren't really afraid of fighting. Very few duck/avoid because they may get knocked out. Its that it is a business that has a very short window of time. A fighters' business must make as much as they can in usually less than 10 years and that business, almost assuredly their only shot, is permanently closed. I do agree that Golovkin does his business no good fighting a very difficult and tactical Ward or a tricky, slick, and great southpaw like Lara. He very well may lose to Ward and look bad/ordinary in a win against Lara. Like the Canelo/Lara fight. Fighters have to think business first and this brings them to maneuvering towards and away from certain fights/styles.

you could say the same thing about any fighter. ward is scared that if he fights kovalev he won't be able to fight bums for 2 million dollars anymore. at least ggg is taking risks in his own division unlike ward but according to ward fans he has earned it because of what he did 4-6 years ago.

They must use identical criteria for each fighter, surely ?

Explain what criteria could possibly rate Golovkin over Pacquiao.

The ring had Pac ranked #1 at welter despite never having fought a welterweight at 147.

It must be based on what has happened over the last 18/24 months, not on the entirety of their careers, otherwise, as you point out it doesn't make sense.
It's based on who is lb for lb now. Otherwise JMM, Donaire, Pacquiao, Cotto would all still be top ten. Rankings would almost never change unless a boxer retired.

You can only cross one bridge at a time. If he beat Kolovkin he could fight Stevenson. Beat both of them and he could venture into cruiserweight, after all wasn't it Ward who said he could be HW champion by the time he is 32.

Isn't he now 31? This is no time to be wasting prime years fighting tune ups otherwise he won't be HW champ until he is 35/36 at the earliest!

Pacquiao beat Bradley and he performed well against Mayweather.

Golovkin has never fought an opponent on Bradleys level.
