Of course the level of competition isn't close. But the one argument is that GGG has really tried to fight every top fighter at 160. I wouldn't' criticize GGG for not moving up to fight Ward, the same way Mayweather shouldn't be criticized for not fighting Martinez or GGG.
But most boxing heads realize that Mayweather missed a few thruoghuot the years and fought some others well past expiration date

Yeah because Floyd's debut was at 154 and he doesn't wanna move up to 160 to fight Martinez or GGG, what the hell are you talking about? GGG started his pro career at 160 and he was 24, Floyd started at 130 and when he was 24 he was at 130, and I know the ignorant excuse of GGG fighting at 140 as an amateur, well he was 16-17 years old at the time, when Floyd was 16 he was fighting at 106-112, so there's absolutely no comparison here, Floyd did all the moving up he should do as he was chasing Oscar dela Hoya and Shane Mosley.

The Current/Former Champions lists need to be separated so the the context will be more clear. I stated before, Berto has accomplished more at 147 than the current top guys at 147 which is how the boxing historians will rate/grade this fight when its all said n done, the asterisk being Berto wasnt at his best form at the time of this fight. I will reiterate that wins are rated on the strength of the opponent and the strength of the opponent is based on who they have faced and beat. With that said, wins over Brook and Thurman would mean very little bcuz of their lack of quality opposition and it can very well be argued that Berto has faced and beat better fighters than they have(Collazo, Forbes, Carlos Quintana, Freddy Hernandez). Dont get me wrong bcuz i do think Floyd couldve chosen a better option, theres just not much really out there. IMO Brook and Thurman, for their lack of top level opposition do just as much for Floyds status as Berto would. I think Bradley was the best option in terms of WW accomplishments and who hes faced and beat at 147.

All said and done though, Floyd had an amazing career, a greatly skilled boxer.

I though hope he actually retires after this, I hate watching past prime greats going on for too long (with Bhop being the exception)...

he is maybe the smartest boxer I've seen in my 30+ years of being a fan. But May has 0 killer instinct, at least since moving up to 147. In his last 13 fights, Hatton is his only legit ko, and even if you want to be generous and count the Ortiz ko, that's 2 in 13 fights. And the thing is, against fighters like Baldomir, JMM, Guererro, he could've gotten it. He just lacked that killer instinct to go for it

Honestly, i dont think FMJ not being able to KO recent opponents is not too big of a deal, i actually credit that to his punch mechanics. Floyd snaps his punches from position so theres really not much bodyweight in his punches that would create a KO. A few more variables is his size, hes not that big to begin with and the caliber of his opponent.

Yea it prolly is the truth but that distinction isn't really that great to hold your hat on. Being in a era where there are at least 4 championship belts per division and more than one champ pet division within the sanctioning bodies(super and regular champ) being a champ is very watered down. It's not a very important record or distinction
