Going toe to toe against a machine, well, he would have never won. But, I'm sure he can find a way around Leo's reach and find a way to outbox him. Mares looked sloppy tonight, but when he let his hands go and strung together combinations, He had some success. I want a rematch, but if It doesn't happen I'm fine with it.
Unless Mares goes back to Nacho and shows improvement I can't see what he can do differently. He doesn't have the stamina to consistently apply constant pressure.

LSC clearly won. I dont see how anyone had mares winning. Second half of the fight he was getting schooled and he was just swinging wild

Rumor has it that Rigo will be joining Haymon soon! I would like to see Rigo vs. LSC and Gary Russell Jr. vs. Mares! That would be an awesome PBC event on ESPN! Gotta Love Teddy Atlas and Joe Tessitore!

Of course it wasnt. People are so desperate for new stars to emerge. Instead of forcing they just need to let it play out.

Yeah, a rematch probably goes worse for Mares. Santa Cruz is bigger, younger, fresher, and better. All the respect in the world to Abner but he's outgunned here.

Abner didnt have the power to take anything out of Leo despite going heavily to the body, and had trouble landing clean on Leos jaw. Was executing for three rounds, then turned into Porter-Brook.

I was rolling with Abner, but Leo will beat him ten times out of ten.

I had Mares up 4-2 after 6 but he faded hard in the second half. Round 7 was a draw on my card and Santa Cruz won the last 5 rounds

There was some close rounds & Mares did good early, but I felt like LSC pulled away big in the 2nd half. In fact the judge who had it a draw musta gave Mares every close round + those early rounds just to get him even.

No interest in seeing a rematch right off. I suppose if Mares notches a couple more wins including a notable win we could consider a rematch in a year or so, but I think LSC should fight some of the other guys & lets see what happens with them. Hoping LSC just doesn't sit on this W & go back to fighting sparring partners again.

Fairly interesting fight with Mares losing by 2 points IMO. He needs more wide ranging strategy, IOW a new trainer. But really, both fighters were sloppy. Rigo would beat both. I just hope Mares realizes this is a crossroads. He can benefit from the experience if he'd just improve his game a bit.
