True or False: James Toney's win over Michael Nunn is better than any win of Floyd's?

It was still a big surprise, particularly in the manner Toney did it. I don't know if anyone's ever dominated Evander like that. And a lot of people weren't sure if Toney could move up and beat a sturdy, still tough Holyfield who had lost an ugly decision to Byrd after a surprisingly effective win over Rahman. But was Holyfield shot? Yeah probably.Comment

the only prime decent fighter that floyd beat is corrales and corrales is overrated because of his exciting fights with castillo.
floyd's career is the biggest fraud show of this era.Comment

OK both Nunn and Pacquiao were champions. Pacquiao had defeated more champions, had more wins, and was ranked higher p4p than Nunn was. Yes, Nunn was skillful but you can't undoubtedly say he was better than Manny Pacquiao. Yes, Manny was a couple years past his prime but even past his prime was ranked more highly than Nunn.Dude no one is talking about career resumes.
To argue which win is more impressive you simply look at where the opponents were in their career and what was their level of skill.
All the other **** you're bringing up is completely irrelevant to the analysis/discussion.
This would be a much more serious debate had Floyd gotten a victory over Manny circa '09-'10 because he was at his peak. Similarly to how Nunn was at his peak when Toney fought and beat him. It's really that simple
I think a more comparable fight would be Floyd/Corrales. Corrales was undefeated, in his prime, a top ten p4p fighter, had 30 KOs out of 33 victories and was the betting favorite. And Floyd absolutely dominated him.Comment

Which is funny because people are conveniently forgetting that Pacquiao was rated #3 P4P behind Wladimir Klitschko as well as Mayweather.
Also not all P4P lists are equally deep, ratings are relative to the other fighters at the time. Beating the #3 P4P fighter has meaning that varies in context. It was a big win for Floyd, but Nunn was a prime monster and I see that being a bigger win.Comment

In fact, as proof of my above point regarding P4P rankings at different times, I am willing to bet that roughly 0 people complaining in this thread that believe Pac was a bigger win than Nunn would say that Pacquiao beating #3 P4P Bradley was an equal or bigger win than Nunn.
Prove me wrong.Comment

yah except manny was farrrr past his prime while nunn was IN HIS PRIME. and many people even argued that manny belonged outside of the top 5.Which is funny because people are conveniently forgetting that Pacquiao was rated #3 P4P behind Wladimir Klitschko as well as Mayweather.

toney beating a prime undefeated top p4p nunn >>>>>>> beating a farrrrr past prime old one good arm manny coming off a devastating KO loss 3 fights back
it's REALLy not hard to understand.Last edited by Divine Hammer; 08-26-2015, 11:49 AM.Comment

IMHO, Here's where the comparison differs greatly, and kind of colors a response\answer.
Both Nunn and Toney had comparable (not exactly alike) skills and achievements. Both were high on the totem pole and both were viewed as great boxer's with few if any competitors or equals. It can be confidently stated that they matched each other talent for talent.
Who can we pin-point as comparable to Floyd during his reign?
Again IMHO, this has been a shortcoming during Floyd's career, because I honestly cannot state that there was another boxer that was close to being on equal footing with Floyd during his career. The closest boxer is and was Manny ... Outside of Manny, very few could match Floyd talent for talent, like Nunn could match Toney, talent for talent.
That stated, what is the basis of the answers posted?
Just curious ................

was Toney 38 years old when he did it? NOyah except manny was farrrr past his prime while nunn was IN HIS PRIME. and many people even argued that manny belonged outside of the top 5.

What about when Mayweather fought Corrales? Corrales was number 5 P4P in the world, undefeated 33-0 with like 30 KOs, in his prime and just KOed all the top guys in his division plus he was the lineal champion and was considered to be number 1 at 130 lbs at the time. Floyd at the time was ranked number 7 P4P and number 2 at 130, he was also an underdog going into the fight, so going into the fight Corrales was a beast, just like Nunn if not more devastating, and Floyd beat him up, won all rounds, knocked him down like 6 times and stopped him, Toney on the other hand was down on the score cards and had to KO Nunn to win, so Mayweather's win against Corrales was imo better, and his win against Pacquiao is more impressive than any other victory in the last 20 years cuz it was the only time since a long time where the number 1 P4P guy fights the number 2 guy and don't use Pacquiao being old as an excuse cuz Mayweather is 2 years older, 38 years old, best P4P in the world, the record speaks for itself.Comment
