Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins: Middleweight Division Left in Great Hands

The last time Bernard Hopkins fought at Madison Square Garden in New York City, it resulted in the middleweight division crowning an undisputed, fully unified champion for the first time in more than a decade. His 12th round knockout of then-unbeaten superstar Felix Trinidad served as the defining moment of an underappreciated career, also leaving him tied for the most successful defenses in middleweight history.

    14 defenses???

Are they counting the WBA "regular" title as a legit title defense?

I understand that he's currently the WBA "super" champion. Which he has 4 defenses of that said belt, not 14.

and the IBO isn't a officially recognized sanctioning body such as WBC, WBA, IBF & WBO.

Golovkin defeated Nilson Julio Tapia to become WBA champion in 2010, since then he has made 13 successful title defences. Prior to winning the belt he defeated Milton Nunez for the interim WBA middleweight title. Upon defeating Lajuan Simon for add the minor IBO middleweight title in 2011 he was elevated to 'Super' champion, so the WBA could have a 'regular' champion and collect more sanctioning fees. That should clear it up lol.

I know all that. (collecting sanctioning fees imo is the only reason they added extra belts)... what am saying is when have they actually started to count the WBA "regular" belt as legit title defenses. imo its more like the WBC interim belt status type of thing.

I have said in a previous thread that I could see a Trinidad Vs Vargas type of scenario playing out but it's highly unlikely.

As exciting as this fight is on paper, i just can't over look the fact that Lemiux has shown us that he can be defeated in two different ways, by either decision or KO. This is a nice come back from Lemieux but friggin' Marco Antonio Rubio blasted him out of there of all people.

The best middleweight in the world is none other than Floyd Joy Mayweather.

He's the best in the world 147-160 lbs.
