I thought you understood what a mandatory is.

Leapai was the WBO mandatory after beating Boytsov, Klitschko had to fight him or lose his belt. Wilder should be fighting HIS mandatory, Alexander Povetkin.

Besides Povetkin, Wilder has MANY better options than to face clubfighters like Molina and Duhaupas: Takam, Teper, Jennings, etc.

      This this and this.

      Situations aren't remotely comparable.

Leapai actually beat the ranked undefeated number lone challenger in the WBO rankings to earn his position to force a mandatory fight on wlad. Wlad would have risked being stripped.

Loool one gimme defense I guess is understandable for a wilder but TWO?!?

Povetkin isn't gonna let him get away with it again though. He's got backers who got the money to win a purse bid should it come to it.

I miss the Klitschko era where jokers like this French clown wouldn't be allowed anywhere near a World title shot.

I don't understand why Haymon fighters almost always have the extreme of a great opponent or a disappointing one.

Duhuapas is as good as any title defense Povetkin put up. Look, the top 10 guys in the division NEVER fight each other period..

I emailed his manager Jay Deas a couple times and Deas was offended that I called Wilder's less-than-stellar opposition "bums."

A year or two back, I felt Wilder had the capability of beating some highly regarded opponents had he had the chance. His Team though always opted for the safe fight.

This guy he's fighting isn't gonna help him get to the next level. His team should've picked Tony Thompson or Czar Glazkov - two durable and credible opponents that would give him rounds, but guys that Wilder is definitely capable of beating.

We'll see what happens with Wilder in the next 6-12 months. I like him but I don't think his title reign will be long.
he will be fighting povetkin by January. The WBC has mandated it. Since purse bids don't go until October his team wants him to fight again. With a huge payday coming against Povetkin they are not going to risk him fighting a top guy. Duhaupas has looked pretty good his last 2 fights against teper & charr. They were both close fights & I think the charr win moved him up in the top 10 in the WBC rankings. I'd take him over Eric Molina.

he's fighting Povetkin after this. Charr was the WBC #3 or 4 I believe before Duhaupas beat him. I'm not sure if any of the other higher ranked guys are available for a September clash. Since the mandatory negotiations were sanctioned by the WBC for October wilder thought he'd fight again. Nothing wrong with that. As you say the povetkin backers will bring a huge purse bid so why not try & pack 17000 into an arena on US TV with a safe opponent? He is not ducking Povetkin as he has to face him by January or be stripped. It's not rocket science...

I may be wrong but I believe that both Pianeta and Wach were optional defenses for Wlad.

I hope you are right. WBC doesn't exactly enforce mandatories all the time.
