The most remarkable thing is that there's a thread about it.

Golovkin beating Nunez is not the issue, it's the fact he was able to get himself a fight for a title in a foreign country during the middle of a legal dispute with his promoter. Universum was keeping Golovkin buried deep on their undercards while pushing less accomplished fighters ahead of him. He took control of his own career got himself a title fight to gain relevance.

How many fighters have destroyed or severely damaged their careers just sitting out during a contract dispute? Brad Solomon was on the cusp of having a title fight in the hot WW division before he lost years to inactivity. Andre Ward could've fought Paul Smith's 3-4x during the time he was taking Goosen to court, instead he chose to lose almost all his market value. Mikey Garcia is going on 2 years w/o a fight.

Even Floyd Mayweather, during stalled negotiations for a new contract with HBO, took what he thought was a stay busy **** fight in 22-16-4 Emanuel Augustus.

That's funny, I have long forgot about a potential Mayweather vs Stevie Johnston fight:

HBO was fine with that but took exception to the offer of faded ex-featherweight champ Alejandro Gonzalez and rejected him.

HBO and Mayweather promoter Bob Arum prefer that he take a higher-profile, more competitive fight, ideally vs. former two-time champ Stevie Johnston. But Mayweather and his manager, James Prince, have balked.

"No one can communicate with Floyd," Arum said. "It's like talking to the wall. I said 'Fight Stevie Johnston.' Floyd said, 'I don't want to fight him. He's a bum.' "

Arum said it was "likely" HBO would simply bench Mayweather and give his date away instead of arguing over opponents. "They're not going to put up with this much longer," he said.

Johnston certainly would like to fight Mayweather. "I already talked to Stevie about it, and he's ready to go," manager Cameron Dunkin said. "I'd get him a fight right away to get him warmed up, but I don't think Floyd wants to fight Stevie. James Prince and I spoke, and he told me that was the fight they didn't want."

On August 14, 2010 at Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama, Gennady Golovkin, from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, fought Milton Nunez, from Barranquilla, Colombia, for the interim WBA World middleweight title. Golovkin was undefeated at 18-0 coming in. Nunez was 21-1-1. The fight was scheduled for 12 rounds.

Is this some kind of ironic post about the state of boxing today? Is it a parody of something? Or is it, and I seriously hope it isn't, a video highlighting GGG's brilliant win over what looks a good opponent?

It's pretty telling that the very best guy Milton had faced in his 21-1-1 pro career, and let's not forget that this is who GGG won his Interim World title against, was the 7-1-1 Nilson Tapia (yes, I know, who you ask?) and he also got KTFO in one round by that guy. 7-1-1 and he was KTFO in one round too.

His 21-1-1 record was literally built entirely against guys of a 0-9, 1-13-4, 0-0, 0-4, 6-6 nature. That's not cherry picking the worst. He literally had only one or two guys with a winning record, i.e. 7-1, and 19-15 and the best of them was utter ****e and yet KHTFO in one round too. Everyone else had a disgracefully shocking losing record or no record at all. Arguably the worst fighter to ever be ranked for a title shot without ever having a win of or even fight of the remotest significance in boxing history. Where did he even come from?!

To get his ranking to fight GGG for the Interim title, he fought, and miraculously beat, the 8-16 Anibel Miranda. I agree that it's very likely it was a woman, yes.

It's funny because after GGG, he actually stepped up his competition to what could be considered a low ranked top 100 type international level and he literally lost every single fight he ever had against a fighter of any significance at all. I don't mean he only lost to good fighters, he lost to anyone and everyone that had a record of anything more than 0-0 i.e. debut or 0-10. Unbelievable.

This opponent was a ****ing disgrace to win an Interim World Title against, as was GGG's actual title win against the aforementioned 7-1-1 Nilson Tapia, who despite beating the great Milton Nunez, his only career achievement ever was to lose every round and quit on his stool against Austin Trout before GGG beat him to win a 'world championship' title. Trout fought this guy as a stay busy, nothing, prospect, cream puff filler fight waiting for his title shot against someone with an actual title and worthy of it, while GGG won his ****ing world title against him a few fights after Trout's power made him quit on his stool like a patsy!

Boxing is in a weird state and this is a weird post. If you're a fan of GGG, you should be steering well clear of ever mentioning how he won his title, who he won it against and the fighters he beat to get it. Just focus on the fact that he's good, and is fighting some better stiffs today than someone whose average opponent record quite seriously was 0 wins and 9 losses and that that is what won him his world title. The guy got his title shot by beating a 0-3 fighter, a 0-4 fighter and then the 8 wins and 16 losses Anibel chick.

I dont think he ever beat anyone with a winning record of any kind.

Lazcano's win over Johnston is what would've put him in play for a Floyd fight. That happened after the Sosa fight. Floyd fought Ndou two months after that, and moved to 140 following that. When exactly was that fight viable?

The Johnston fight I would've liked to see, but there wasn't exactly a wide window of opportunity for that to happen. Ultimately, he moved to 135, and beat the man there twice.
