cotto can probably get away with immediately vacating, but if canelo wins and then drops the belt straight away, he will face serious backlash. he's a young guy in his prime, he should be trying to forge a legacy. cotto's legacy is already more or less set and his fans will support him regardless of what happens now

I think people are forgetting
Cotto/Canelo 2 would still be for the lineal Middleweight Championship of the world
They can vacate the WBC title, but the winner would still be the lineal champion
The WBC will get their split in a rematch by sanctioning a Diamond championship or some other abomination of a belt

Cotto may vacate his WBC MW belt... But Cotto is able to still keep his "lineal" belt, as according to The Ring rules... right?Originally posted by NEETzsche View Postcotto can probably get away with immediately vacating, but if canelo wins and then drops the belt straight away, he will face serious backlash. he's a young guy in his prime, he should be trying to forge a legacy. cotto's legacy is already more or less set and his fans will support him regardless of what happens now

Until they sign to fight someone else, and you make another excuse for them.
You were "firm" that Cotto would have to fight Golovkin after Geale. How did that work out?

The RING and lineal titles are different thingsOriginally posted by MDPopescu View PostCotto may vacate his WBC MW belt... But Cotto is able to still keep his "lineal" belt, as according to The Ring rules... right?
He'd still have the lineal title because he never lost it, retired or moved division

In case Cotto vacates WBC belt right now, he will be able to fight Canelo with the Ring "lineal "belt on the table. In case Cotto doesn't vacate now and fight Canelo and canelo wins, then Canelo may immediately vacate the WBC strip and rematch Cotto for the Ring "lineal" belt...Originally posted by techliam View PostThe RING and lineal titles are different things

That's the idea...
The whole WBC bla-bla is shit, actually...

Nah, if Cotto wins, cotto vs Mayweather II for the lineal middleweight belt, barclays, cinco de mayo 2016 HE CANT GET THAT MUCH MONEY FIGHTING GGG and wasnt that the excuse the gg's used as a reason not to fight Ward, there isnt enought money? and Ward's team is Roc Nation the same Roc Nation that represents Cotto. Plus it would be a nice kick in the nuts of golden boy, by floyd and cotto, to get back at Oscar.Originally posted by Pain~Lucy View Postwhether the winner will fight him or not, cinco de Golovkin is inevitable

“GGG-Lemieux tix pre-sale began Tues & has already sold over 5k tix. Best pre-sale MSG has had, surpassing Wladimir-Jennings & Cotto-Margarito 2,” After this fight GGG is a bigger draw than Cotto. GGG vs Mayweather, or Cotto, or Canelo is bigger than Mayweather vs Cotto or Canelo.Originally posted by LarryXXX View Post

How new are you to boxing? Anything above 154 is considered MW.Originally posted by aboutfkntime View PostMiddleweight has a limit of 160 bro, always has.
Anything from 154.1-159.9 is, a catchweight
BTW, If 155 is middleweight, and it isn't....... but if it was, then GGG can fight the Cotto/Canelo winner at 155, right?
Also, anyone can weigh anything for any weightclass as long as they're not over the limit.

It's looking like the lineage will soon be broken, assuming Cotto/Canelo don't defend it against GGG.Originally posted by techliam View PostI think people are forgetting
