Simply look back to Thomas Hearns vs Wilfredo Benitez, and then consider that Floyd is longer than Benitez, while also being quicker of foot with similar defensive awareness.

Hearns is going to have to chase down Floyd all night, while Floyd works his in/out jab and nits points throughout.

If Benitez can push Hearns to a majority decision, why do folks simply assume that Floyd would get blown out?
Hearns clearly won the fight. I don't know how one judge had that a draw.

In the first round Benitez made Hearns miss silly at times but after that nothing too impressive, ironically HE was struggling to land on Hearns and that could also be the case if Floyd fought Hearns.

      Hearns

Hearns knocks Floyd out cold. Hearns too powerful too strong. Floyd's defense with pot shots would not be enough. Straight right down the pipe and good night.

        Obviously pbf ain't knocking out **** @ 147 unless its 05-07 Floyd

He would trouble hearns...unless he fights the perfect fight, hearns is gonna win

Being a natural defensive fighter will be his undoing unless he comes in with the mind set he had against hatton, gatti, ndo, g. Hernandez, marquez, and Judah.....mix skills, defense n aggression

He ain't potshotting hearns....it's crazy cause IMO, we haven't seen pbf pushed to limit to foce a ko...ala Leonard, Whitaker-hurtado, toney-nunn etc
Maidana was his Hurtado. He didn't KO him but he needed to win all of the later rounds to win.

thats why he never took on paul williams at his prime, because it was a similar match-up, no way in a million years would any mayweather in any weight class beat Tommy Hearns, those were the days

No it's not similar style wise. Paul Williams fights like he is 5 ft 5.

Not even close bruh. Williams had reach but didn't use it.

                Good points

Nobody pointed out 147 was neither guys best weight

Hearns was better n more seasoned @ 154-160

Mayweather retired at 147 @ age 30 in his prime but 140 he was nastier

No one factored in the experience edge n know how edge Floyd would have besides one other poster....hearns was a beast but didn't have rounds under his belt, couldn't clinch well, didn't transition from defense to offense well, stamina was untested til his first loss n later wins

Money has a better shot than I thought but hearns is the favorite...that right hand doe

People forget Floyd performs very well against taller guys....g Hernandez, corrales, dlh, ndo...but they not hearns though nor does srl have the accuracy, counterpunching , defense, reflexes and overall skill of Floyd

In the fight floyd would have to find the remedy in my book

No! Mayweather would not have been a Welterweight in that Ray Leonard or Thomas Hearns ERA no way! The Welterweight Version of Mayweather with Brittle Hands who Pot Shot and is more Defensive, I think he would have struggled getting Decisions back in that ERA.

Simple Boxing fans will just come and say "OH BECAUSE OF HEARNS SIZE AND POWER" NO I would say it is a combination of things. Hearns Excellent Jab would have given Mayweather the most problems. Not sure if he would have knocked Mayweather out, I think Mayweather Defense would have been effective in ANY ERA of Boxing. I just don't think his Offense, especially that Offense he has at 147 and Up would be effective in those Golden ERA's

That was just second or third gear

                      Louis vs conn l

                      Whitaker vs hurtado

                      Odlh-quartey

                      Corrales-castillo

                      Ike williams- beau jack

Are the last gear....hurt him, ko, overkill to win

He has just been too smart too deal with that situation
