I'm not saying he didn't make the right move with his career. Simply that if a rematch meant this much to him, that he wants to CHASE Garcia at 147, he should have remained with Haymon. Leaving Haymon rules out any possibility.




I think it was a lack of patience and not realising fighters themselves play a role into fights being made. Now that he isn't with Haymon, his options are far more limited! Garcia has a definite say into who he fights and who he doesn't fight. Many of you overlook this though and Haymon is typically the scapegoat.

A rematch with Matthysse had more possibility simply because they shared the same ties with Haymon. This is something Herrera doesn't have. The fight was made at a time when many naysayers here claimed it would NEVER happen. So a rematch was more possible since they actually fought already.

I wouldn't even say leaving Haymon was the problem; Haymon seems to let guys out of deals with him without much hassle, tbh, if the fighter believes that to be the proper move for them and their careers (Dirrell, Matthyesse, and a rumored Amir Khan, were all let out of their deals without any issue). The barrier, as I see, it, was the move to decide to work with Golden Boy Promotions, the outfit that is currently suing Haymon for $100m after they were already paid out a sizable settlement when the initial split happened.

Outside of talking to Canelo to possibly set up a rematch with Floyd, there's literally no rational for Haymon to discuss any fights with Golden Boy, at all.

Agreed for the most part. But the fight is a lot easier to make with them sharing the same manager then without. Just common sense, easier, and most convenient when negotiating. So if his major goal was to land a rematch, he should have stayed with Haymon. For all intents and purposes, he had the highest possibility of getting a rematch by staying with him.

Going to Golden Boy was the nail in the coffin though as you pointed out already too.

I see you really are misinformed about this. Lucas wanted big fights last ear and he got Molina and Ortiz on undercards. With GB, he now will have been on two main events and one title shot. That's why he left Al Haymon. He said he has no regrets and Al offered him more money, but he doesn't fight for glory.

My point was, if a rematch with Garcia meant so much to him, he should have stayed with Haymon. He wants it so bad he's telling the media that he'll chase him at 147. But why would he comprimise the rest of his career at 32 just for a rematch which he may not even get? Angel has said no chance unless Lucas becomes mando, which he did but Danny moved up. Doesn't matter how much he wants the rematch, he needs to make the choice most sensible for his future. Fighting Molinas and Ortiz' isn't the right path for him.

And big fights clearly do mean something to him as he just fought Provodnikov and really wants a world title. He also has said he hopes the title brings him "big fights" and in particular Pacquiao. He also said that a Garcia rematch would be nice but other mega fights are priority. You don't keep up to date enough with Lucas if you think all he's been wanting is a rematch with Garcia.
