The two sides have agreed on several points, but there is a conflict over the rematch clause.

The fight has been negotiated at least twice in the past, and in both instances the negotiations fell apart - including earlier this year. They parties appear to be closer than every, but there are still issues. [Click Here To Read More]
Dey just pretending they are still negotiating. They don't want it to look like they were waiting on floyd to announce. Which of course they were. Fight to be announced next week.

Hmmm. When I heard issues with a rematch clause I just assumed it was on Cotto's side. Kinda surprised Canelo's side gives a **** about a rematch clause. Wonder if this is some sneaky **** to push back fighting GGG a lil bit. I can see the WBC president being like "well there is a contract saying a rematch needs to happen so we're pushing back the GGG mandatory til Dec. 2016." Or something like that.

Yep. Cotto might just have 2 fights & be out. Why pigeonhole himself to fight Canelo twice. Maybe the first fight sucks. Maybe Mayweather comes calling. Maybe Berto does the impossible & calls out Cotto. If GGG & Lemieux do solid PPV numbers I think Cotto will be more interested in that fight than ever before. So many possibilities out there & I think Cotto, rightfully, likes options & he definitely has them as one of the biggest draws in the sport.
