So we should blame Duva for Haymon's ability to exploit the sport?
The Stevenson situation was unique because Stevenson was also a champion. Making that fight was always going to be a challenge.
But 'poaching' a title for a champion just because he's locked to a different network, just so you can give it to a mandatory challenger, isn't good for the fans at all. In fact that would be a disaster.
As for exploiting the sport-purse bids have been around forever. HBO can pay small purses if they choose, that doesn't mean fighters have to accept this.
Why is there a problem with trying to get your fighter the biggest purse possible?
When the talk is about Povetkin/WIlde-everyone says watch out for the Russian billionaire who will make a huge bid and take the fight to Russia like they did with wlad. I see no difference here.Comment

I agree with your point in the last paragraph I just wish I had seen it when duva got Kov made the mando at the WBC convention. She figured by doing so she would force Stevenson to be stripped. She just didn't realize Haymon had vast resources.

Champions shouldn't lose titles like that. Povetkin should have to come to the US to fight Wilder, on PBC or Showtime or w/e Wilder is locked to.Comment

thank you. This sport and it's fans are truly demented. I can't believe we have guys in here applauding avoiding this fight so that they can get a purse bid and probably have kovalev stripped because he can't fight in another channel. The sport is full of *******, don't care that they fight for a living. The fight is in front of them and they rather weasel their way into a title.
why aren't you mad at Kov for calling out Bieterbiev simply as a face saving move after removing himself from the purse bid with Adonis?Comment

Show me the article that says he was a free agent, or wasn't in negotiations with hbo, when they walked away from the pimp purse bid.Comment

I would love a HWT title fight in MSG but NO, the highest bidder should get the fight. If wilder loses fairly in Russia, so be it. That's the way the game is. If Kov loses to Stevenson in Canada on PBC fairly, so be it. If he wins, so be it.Comment

My honest opinion is that neither Stevenson nor Haymon wanted the Kovalev fight, on HBO or anywhere else, because they both knew that Adonis would have little chance of winning it.
I think Beterbiev believes he can beat Kovalev, and if he told Al he wanted the fight, Haymon would ok it.Comment

Kathy asked to be the mando when she knew Stevenson had a SHO deal and you blame him for the "purse bid trick" even though Kathy/kov pulled out of the bid before it happened?
You have to be a special kind of ******ed to actually post that.
Here is why you force a purse bid-because it makes your fighter's purse higher because the highest bid wins. HBO/Duva are not paying as much so you go where they are paying the most.
But Yvon Michel surprised her, and everybody else, by requesting an immediate, expedited purse bid from the WBC, then refusing to negotiate when Duva said she wasn't ready for it.
That's the purse bid trick I was referring to.Comment

With the same effort every channel could tie up their champions and the competition disappears... Is that you want? Let's not compete but play a female dog and let HBO to dictate everything because "they have exclusive network deal with Kovalev doe"? No. That's not how a business work. They are not bigger then the rules of the sport. If there will be a pursue bid and Haymon win it and HBO will make Kovalev to vacate instead of let him fight on another channel then you should blame that on HBO not on Yvon's side, the latter only want to compete which is the way of things.Last edited by HEND; 08-05-2015, 02:49 PM.Comment
