Instead they could reach an agreement where Beterbiev might get 35-40 of the split. Which is a lot more favorable than 25.
Michel said he was happy with the offer Duva made. So it must have been better than what they think they would get from a 25% cut of a purse bid.

Because he signs a contract which gives Haymon control of who he fights and when. If Beterbiev breaches the contract, he leaves himself open to getting sued.

Even if Stevenson wanted to go to HBO, if Haymon didn't want him to, he couldn't do it without incurring legal liability.

This is a duck move. This is power play to try and force a purse bid later on and then over bid for a fight that can't happen unless it's on HBO and then blame Kovalev just like Stevenson. This fool don't need one more fight give me a break. He been calling for a shot at Kovalev a while now and get's his shot but he needs more time? GTFO

My honest opinion is that neither Stevenson nor Haymon wanted the Kovalev fight, on HBO or anywhere else, because they both knew that Adonis would have little chance of winning it.

I think Beterbiev believes he can beat Kovalev, and if he told Al he wanted the fight, Haymon would ok it.

So we should blame Duva for Haymon's ability to exploit the sport?

The Stevenson situation was unique because Stevenson was also a champion. Making that fight was always going to be a challenge.

But 'poaching' a title from a champion just because he's locked to a different network, just so you can give it to a mandatory challenger, isn't good for the fans at all. In fact that would be a disaster.

beterbiev and stevenson both ducking Kovalev yet neither is fighting each other instead they fighting bums separately while trying to save face with this purse bid farce. Turning down a title shot now to politic and get a purse bid later? That's a new low. And we all know why it's because of Haymon

thank you. This sport and it's fans are truly demented. I can't believe we have guys in here applauding avoiding this fight so that they can get a purse bid and probably have kovalev stripped because he can't fight in another channel. The sport is full of *******, don't care that they fight for a living. The fight is in front of them and they rather weasel their way into a title.

Kathy asked to be the mando when she knew Stevenson had a SHO deal and you blame him for the "purse bid trick" even though Kathy/kov pulled out of the bid before it happened?

You have to be a special kind of ******ed to actually post that.

Here is why you force a purse bid-because it makes your fighter's purse higher because the highest bid wins. HBO/Duva are not paying as much so you go where they are paying the most.
