HBO has gotten stingy and Main Events is a second-tier promoter, so what do you expect? Team Beterbiev has a right to not accept the offer, and now they can go about getting the belt in another way (i.e. purse bid and getting Kovalev stripped). Let's stop kidding ourselves, we can all see the attack plan coming from a mile away: Haymon's fighters are all positioned for future title shots, and Kovalev can't fight off HBO. Haymon is working with a bigger budget than HBO, so the purse bids are pretty much a guaranteed win, and Kov will be forced to drop one belt after the other.

Good move for Beterbiev, although we want this fight Artur's only had limited pro experience and would be silly to fight the number 1 killer. Also he's 30 so he can't exactly come back from a defeat quickly.

Yeah that's the only thing that would probably stop Sergey from leaving her. She's the only one that gave him a shot. But I'm actually happy that's he's getting pissed with her. It's cool that she gave him opportunities and what not but that's as far as she can take him imo. It's time to look for bigger and better things (promoters) or he's going to be stuck in a difficult position going forward.

Duva better hope Ryabinsky is willing to co-promote with her something lol.

Duva's "fair offer" was likely not all that fair after all...

Yvon Michel and Beterbiev knew that they had a 75/25 mandatory split due to them (Beterbiev vs Skoglund(IBF #4)/Barrera(IBF #9)/Rodriguez(IBF #10) are all available for the mandatory eliminator), Duva likely lowballed the money, and now they're likely to force the purse bid.

Beterbiev locks in his shot around the time that Kovalev has his homecoming fight, and then they put the screws to Kovalev. (Mohammedi was deemed IBF mandatory challenger well before the Pascal fight, so there's less time on the clock than people want to think).

should be fun to see how they spin this one

michel has said that the offer was fine, they just declined because they thought he needed another fight or two to prepare for the challenge (http://www.boxingscene.com/beterbiev...kovalev--94316). which is a fair sentiment imo, but i hope that they are being sincere about their willingness to fight on hbo

But whatever, the difference between that and what Stevenson did in 2014 is that Kovalev/Duva didn't just walk away from the fight. They offered to negotiate with Adonis/Gym/Haymon so that it could go ahead on HBO, and who knows what concessions Stevenson might have got from Kovalev if he'd given it a try?
HBO refuses to compete with the market value for the fight, so what was the point of keeping things to HBO?

keep ignoring the fact that HBO isn't the only shop interesting in airing fights and HBO has shown no allegiance to Stevenson.

Wouldn't GYM\Haymon\Beterbiev be in a better situation if they were negotiating the fight as mando ? Just wondering... Still leaves about a full year before it happens though, if ever ...
