But it's been like that for a very long time and it's on at the same days at the same times.

PBC is nothing like that. Different obscure channels, different days, different times. I get Haymon wants to spread big but you need to gain a dedicated audience first. UFC was on Spike and the show was consistent, that trumps how many channels you're on. It's okay to be spread out when you're established, not when you're new.
It must be good for the NBA because they are expanding to Sat night prime time games this year on ABC.

I get your point I just think this is a promotional/advertising issue.

Again, you're comparing mainstream sports to boxing. Boxing will never have the popularity that sports like baseball, basketball, football have. Those sports can be spread across 25 different channels and its fans will still tune in.

Even if the promotion was great, casual fans only tune in for action. Once they see 2 guys posing and jabbing for more than a round or 2, they'll change the channel. They want to see a fight. Not a game of tag.

I think you're overestimating the impact these cards will have on non fans/casual fans. PBC hasnt given us anything as of yet to convert these fans and make them searching the 1000 channels on cable looking for a PBC bout on dog knows what channel on any given day and time.
If you develop a "boxing" fan, then they may follow the sport no matter what channel if you advertise better. I understand your point, I just think You fix that with better advertising and marketing.

The last PBC show had a slight increase in ratings, suggesting a small number are more inclined to watch.

This is false because boxing used to be more popular until it was taken off mainstream TV. So if you get it back on you could make it popular again.

That is your opinion. Fans in the US used to watch Olympic boxing in droves and there was no KO's. If you get fans involved at a younger age, they will not gravitate just toward violence and action, they may actually like all aspects of the sport.

This is the problem-you are trying to make PBC cater just to the casual fan in the short term while ignoring the bigger issues-that the sport doesn't have outlets where casual and no sports fans can fans can catch it.

You can't just put on brawler/punchers and expect fans to stick. That has never worked.

As a hardcore fan I can see that growing the audience overall isn't a big thing for you. I get that.

Hopefully it will pick up. I think the key to making the sport big again developing younger fans and making new ones.

Have either of you considered there are different reasons to air a PBC show? On Bounce, which is a start up network, the small rating we see is one of that networks highest viewed shows.

ESPN, NBC and CBS are going to stay. I would say FoxSports1 is as well. SO what do you want them to drop-Bounce, NBCSPorts?
ESPN, NBC, CBS, FS1, Spike. Anything else feels like overkill. I like Redeaux's idea (post 12) of making each channel feel unique like how HBO has WCB and BAD. ESPN could be the network for prospects, while SPIKE could the equivalent of HBO BAD. NBC/CBS could be the afternoon and primetime slots for more significant bouts. Something to differentiate one channel from another would be nice.

As long as the matchmaking, fight, and good judging are there, I could care about the rest.

The quality hasn't even been bad. Quantity v quality, respectfully is a bogus argument to me. Boxers do not always face top tier talent. Every boxer is not at the same point in their careers either.

by going to the smaller network, they are doing what you and deveel916 are asking-develop a consistent spot to air programming. It's not like more established networks were offering prime time spots for PBC and haymon turned them down.
I respect what you think and maybe spending that money on smaller networks would get a few new fans.
Bur I just know if he scaled it down network wise and was more consistent with a better product he will get way more new fans from an established network over a new start up one. Stop spreading that money around and put it into bigger better shows on established networks. I'm always a firm believer of quality over quantity. I'm not saying go don't go to the smaller newer channels but why waste the money when it can get used improving the shows on an established network. It's a marathon, build momentum, establish a great product, show consistency, start making good profits then expand to other networks with that profit.

Spike has the deal with TR but ok. I don't see how Bounce or BET hurts but I undestand consistency and "feeling like overkill".

And I think even that is too much. CBC/NBC and save the bigger fights for Showtime and that's it. Establish those channels and build a routine that fans can get use to.

They are established and it's a channel they've been on forever. If Haymon put on less PBC cards on less channels and put the money into better fights, he would be seeing 3.5 ratings like Thurman did his first night consistantly. Instead Haymon chose **** matches on a million channels. The more I think about it, the more the person who says all was doing it to collect fee's from the fighters, the more sense it makes.
