Considering Kovalev killed someone in the ring do you find him distasteful?

Yes I do take into consideration where he's coming from. Russia. Racism is absolutely rife over there.

I am in agreement with Earl. Typically these tragedies have an adverse effect on fighters. I'm not saying that he should change his approach in the ring but I would expect the crudeness outside of the ring to take a hit.
Kovalev is held to a different standard because he's champion or are people simply not used to a Russian with a chip on his shoulder? He could live in the past and let it take away from his aggression or move on from it like he has, which allowed him to become champion. Maybe that's it... some people don't want him as champ due to whatever personal reasons, so they'll find anything to criticize.

When a fighter talks of the harm they are going to put on their opponent, they do so without the knowledge that their fists caused a man's death. I don't think it is particularly savoury but it is easy to see that they distance themselves from the possibility of death. When someone has killed someone in the ring, they know what their fists have done in the past so their words carry more weight.
I am speaking openly and honestly on the matter. There's a reason why boxers who have killed their opponent typically become timid after the fact. Regardless of fault, human decency makes the guilt difficult to shake off. I'm actually happy that the experience didn't affect Kovalev's approach in the ring, but I'm not going to sit around and pretend his experience shouldn't have resulted in a bit more respect for the dangers of the sport.

The fact that he's clearly a bit of a racist is more distasteful.
