C'mon Ward! Now Golovkin playing the annoying A side game. Ward better negotiate with the demands and make the fight happen because it is sort of his fault.
GGG denied the 3 ducks, but nobody ever denied that HBO approached both once at least, and GGG said yes, Ward said no

At the same time what's his incentive to jump 8lbs? Ward doesn't bring the Mexican market like Chavez and Ward doesn't bring the UK market like Froch. Ward doesn't even bring a strong Oakland market right now. Ward needs to make up for that factor if he expects the smaller man to move up.

Golovkin will drop down for Floyd, just like Ward said he would. Cotto & Alvarez are fighting for a MW title that Golovkin is part owner of; small or not they're in his division. When Golovkin fought Rosado, he offered Rosado a CW of 158 w/o Rosado's team even asking for it.

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS EQUATION you have Andre Ward. A guy who said he'd go up to LHW for a single fight, then made the #1 LHW come down to his weight and even refused later to fight at 170lbs. A guy who refused a 2 fight deal with Adonis Stevenson, the first at 168lbs in Oakland with a rematch at 175lbs in Montreal (he was saying Stevenson needed to prove himself and instead was calling out Chavez Jr). A guy who wanted to fight MW Caleb Truax at 168lbs, no CW offerdecisions
I completely aware of the business reasons and I'm very familiar with both fighters careers. They are barriers to making the fight happen but have nothing to do with my point.

Doesn't matter. His actions opened the door for criticism. I think Canelo was fine at the weight but that's irrelevant.

Yeah no doubt, esp since he railed on other guys for demanding CWs and discounted their CW wins. Hypocritical POS, but he still beats Canelo at 154 easy, killing your argument.

Yeah because every situation and the circumstances surrounding it are uniform across the board.

Yeah and your statement was pretty categorical, cut and dry. Glad you're now finding it's more nuanced

It applies to this situation. GGG does not believe be can beat Ward at 168. Period. Ward should be flattered and pursue Kovalev.

And yet when HBO proposed the fight to both, GGG said yes, Ward said no. But I get it, it's situational logic.

I don't think Ward needs to work very hard on pursuing Kovalev, if he wants it next it'll happen. Heck make it in Russia, where they'll make the most money.

                    • It's a shame that Golovkin is preventing the Ward fight. If he was more willing to fight the best fighters in the sport, we could have a superfight on our hands. Instead we have to watch Golovkin fight more overmatched opposition. It's disappointing.
