Comments Thread For: Danny Garcia: Perfect And Still Fighting For Respect

By Jake Donovan - Whether you prefer his 12-round win over Lucas Matthysse or his come-from-behind knockout of Amir Khan, the best wins of Danny Garcia’s career have never managed to transition to career-defining wins.

By definition, a career-defining win would be that where observers point to that specific moment whenever a fighter’s name enters the conversation. Yet, Garcia’s career has never been defined by his earlier strong run while atop the 140 lb. division, but for what has transpired in recent times.

That very lack of respect extended to the unbeaten Phila-Rican has trickled over into his upcoming clash with former two-division titlist Paul Malignaggi. The bout takes place this weekend at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, headlining live in primetime on ESPN (Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET).

Just as he’s done every time out since turning pro in 2007, all Garcia (30-0, 17KOs) plans to come of each fight is a win. [Click Here To Read More]

you don't get respect fighting malignaggi and continually getting help from the ref/judges to win fights.

He would have got respect and many of the elusive spondulettes if he had parlayed that jr title into a WW title fight. He allowed it to wither, while others waited, only to abdicate. He will get no better fighting these guys and less pay = less respect. He needs to step it up, make hay while the sun shines.

LOL, he literally follows "I'm not making any excuses" with an excuse.

Garcia got all the respect in the world after the Matthysse win. He's blown it since. It isn't an "illusion" that Herrera beat him just because he finished strong, because he didn't finish strong, he fought all 12 in control. And he was clearly the inferior man against PEDerson, I fight I think he won but not one where he looked the better fighter.

DG is a warrior in my books. It's a shame that there are cherry pickers, fight dodgers, and money chasers that get held on a higher pedestal than him.

Herrera whipped that @ss. I scored it 9-3, could see 8-4, but in no way did Garcia beat Herrera. It was a good old fashioned molly-whooping. Herrera did for 12 what Peterson only managed for 6. It was an embarrassing "home coming".

Danny Garcia will never get respect also because he owns a chain of barber shops but reps the most repulsive hair cut in the history of professional sports. Also Angel is a gimp.

Got schooled by Herrera, then fought 75-ranked feather fisted flyweight at catch weight, then got whooped by Peterson. Now he is fighting feather fisted, brain damaged, shot to **** Paulina Maliggnagi. Fighting for respect doe!

He just needs to enter against a big top name opponent. Everyone needs it. Jr. had Oscar. Pac had Oscar to enter the WW with a ****.

Despite beating Lucas, Lucas himself wasn't a big star, just well known amongst boxing fans and thought it would be a great scrap.

Honestly, the Khan win was probably his best win with the biggest superstar name attached and until he blasted Khan out, he was getting beat up a bit.

He just needs more Khan type opponents that have a fan following to get more big.
