IMO if you watch the beltholders fight it's clear who is #1, whether Gonzalaez is jumping to give Estrada a rematch or not.

People on here are acting like Gonzalez is a paper belt-holder like Braehmer or Stevenson, who repeatedly get paid to slap around stiffs and cupcakes in the ring. BS. None of the flyweight beltholders are regularly defending against softies and there is no reason Gonzalez shouldn't demand good money after holding title belts for seven years. He'd be ****** if he didn't.

Estrada's resume at flyweight craps all over Gonzalez' resume, easily. Zurdito Sanchez Jr., Richie Mepranum, Brian Viloria, Milan Melindo, Giovani Segura, Alvarez and a lousy Asenjo are not "at best marginally better", they are leaps and bounds ahead of what Roman has faced at 112.

Also, what does Sosa beating Segura have to do with anything? Amnat beat Fuentes, Sosa lost to Yaegashi, and three of the names being tossed around for roman's possible opponent lost to Estrada(Segura, Viloria) or Amnat(Arroyo). So how exactly is he number one resume wise?

If anything Ruenroeng has the best resume at the division with a disgustingly good run for the last 2 years or so.

but why does he get to continually face people coming off of losses when he could face the guys who beat them? he can't dine out on that estrada win forever. he's only faced one challenge in the last two years (yaegashi). he's #2 in the ring magazine p4p ratings now(!), so he needs to do something to justify that. he's obviously supremely talented, but i fear that he's already adopted the attitude of having 'been there, done that' w/r/t his boxing legacy and isn't willing to make a push for the hall of fame. realistically, when is he ever going to be paid more than he is for these golovkin undercards? and it's still not enough for him, apparently

I can't blame Roman for that statement. Viloria is one of the bigger named fighters available for him to fight - meaning that's one of his limited potential money fights.

Winning over entertainment. If both guys do their best to win, entertainment takes care of itself.

No more Gabe Rosado's getting big TV fights just to bleed and lose. No more Kov/Mohammedi and Stevenson/Kaprency. No more Kirkland being out for 17 months than coming back to get a big fight. And of course, no more Garcia/Salka fights.
Say what you will, but Gabe Rosado fights are generally fun to watch. Save the time he fought Jermell Charlo, a guy who's all about winning over entertainment.

he should be in p4p lists really. his style sure does him no favours though. the most entertaining thing is his 'give no ****s' demeanour

Disagree with your assessment of Estrada vs Gonzalez resume. I am a fan of both and I don't think I've missed an Estrada fight in three years. Re: Estrada, Melindo and Viloria are good wins, the rest don't stand out as anything more than stay-busy opponents, IMO (who has Mepranum beaten in the last five years?). Segura was a decent win but predictable, considering the way he'd lost to Viloria and Sosa.

The reason I mentioned Sosa v Segura was that Segura is probably Estrada's second best title defense. Gonzalez just wiped out the guy who beat him two years ago, yet Gonzalez's resume is no good by comparison. IMO, Melindo, Viloria and Segura are marginally better than the three Gonzalez flyweight title-fight opponents.

So far Gonzalez has fought two decent, but not top 5 opponents in flyweight title defenses, same as Estrada. If he is still fighting that level of opponent a year from now and hasn't fought Estrada, Ruenroeng or Inoue, I will join everybody else and ****e on his opposition.

You're correct that Ruenroeng's recent resume is the most impressive, although I think Gonzalez or Estrada take him, in Thailand, Mexico or the US

Of his three title fight opponents at flyweight, only one (Fuentes) was coming off a loss, and that was to Ruenroeng, who is probably the division's hottest fighter. IMO it's irrelevant that his stay-busy fights have been against scrubs because it's not like other belt-holders fight world-beaters in non-title fights. I hope he fights better opposition too. I would love to see the four belt-holders at flyweight fight each other in an elimination tournament because they are all good fighters, but I suspect Ioka would avoid Gonzalez or Estrada.

Proof positive that fans will always look for a reason to hate on a fighter: Roman Gonzalez of all fighters, one of the best, most entertaining and classiest fighters in the world. People all over fell in love with him somehow only seeing him the first damn time against Sosa are already b*tching about him like he stuck their women. Straight up fickle b*tches.
