Ward has 20 plus fights at 168 Golovkin ZERO.

I don't even know if Golovkin will be good at 168 without testing the waters.

So I think it would be nice to see how Golovkin can handle a move up, just like Ward did at 172.

I see no problem in Golovkin cleaning out his division and this brings him closer.

A step aside deal is still required. Golovkin is the mandatory for Cotto, that does not prevent GGG from fighting anyone else at anytime he wishes as Cotto is not the mandatory for GGG. Murray recently fought twice in less than a month and Golovkin is fighting Lemieux on OCT 17th and I am quite sure that if Cotto offered to fight him on Nov 21st, a month later, Golovkin would happily take the fight.

There still must be a step aside agreement, and that agreement must consist of a signed agreement for the winner to fight Golovkin next or the title will not be on the line. Whatever else is included, such as financial compensation, has not been revealed or discussed with the media.

Chuffed this fight is happening. It'll be a barnstormer while it lasts and Golovkin likely walks away with two belts. Also with his mandatory position with Cotto he could hold all belts aside from the WBO after his next two fights.

i saw this weeks ago too, its like wbc asked ggg "will you be ok with fighting the winner of cotto-canelo? and ggg sayd yes, but nothing beyond that...

Why is GGG unavailable? The fight is not on the same night and mandatory means MANDATORY.. as in NEXT FIGHT in this case. Show me one mandatory agreement where the mandatory must not fight until the champion decides to fight him. I guess that means GGG should not have fought at all since Cotto won the title then. Cotto had the right to ONE voluntary defense and then was OBLIGATED to fight GGG. He has refused to do that and unless GGG gives his permission, Cotto cannot fight anyone else for the title or he will be stripped.

No agreement, no title. This is a LEGAL CONTRACT. WBC cannot change it without GGG's consent. Cotto CANNOT IGNORE IT without GGG's consent. If either party attempts to do so, GGG can get an injunction in court to prevent the fight from happening or prevent the title from being on the line or to have Cotto stripped.

Try to make all the excuses you want, WBC can change the rules, etc... and you will come out on the losing end. Without Golovkin's consent, Cotto cannot defend the title against anyone but himself.

WBC NEVER made that statement. That was a conclusion jumped to by a web site when WBC posted on their web site that the Cotto - Canelo was signed and a done deal. Even that statement was later denied by ODLH who stated that some details remained to be worked out. Details which still remain to this day, such as the venue for the fight.

And yes, I have been following this situation very closely on a daily basis.

cotto doesnt have a date for his next fight yet, therefore if he says he wants to fight in october ggg is not available, so he has to pay ggg money cuz ggg decided to fight somebody else?? i think ggg should have waited to make that move...
but then again i dont know exactly how this works and thats the reason i asked... prob you know better than i on this topic, but will also like to hear what the wbc has to say about it...
