Comments Thread For: Canelo Will Beat Cotto and Fight Golovkin, Says Sanchez

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, is picking Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) to defeat WBC champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) in the fall.

Cotto-Canelo is being negotiated for a date in November and a finalized deal is very close.

The World Boxing Council has already ordered the winner of Cotto-Canelo to make a mandatory defense against Golovkin, who holds the WBC's interim title.

His remarks sound fully biased. He sees the winner of this fight as GGG's money ticket, which I believe it is. He knows if Cotto survives this fight, which as a cotto fan I believe it's a toss up, Cotto will most likely not get into the ring with that lion. GGG is hungry and as "untested" as he is, its too dangerous of a fight for Cotto.

There are too many unknowns in this fight. Has Cotto's last 3 fights been smoke and mirrors? Because his opponents were "handicapped" in some way, as some people claim. One thing we do know, is much of the old old Cotto is back. He is shop worn though, there is no question. His underated footwork and counterpunching is still there. He has brought some pop up with him, no doubt. His timing is still impeccable. Canelo will probably be heavier than him and is seen as a harder puncher by his fans. That power is in question as he has upped his competition level. He was knocking smaller guys that were blown up to fight him. As he stepped it up, he clearly has some pop but nothing to write home about. He does not seem to have backup game plans and doesn't adjust very well in the ring yet. If the fight isn't going his way to resorts to trying to bully his opponent. I think the key to this fight is whether Cotto can stay out of range and when he can't if he can take Canelos punch. I don't know about canelos chin being suspect as people are looking at a fight that took place years ago with the lesser cotto brother. I think canelo has grown since that fight, physically and mentally. Canelos ribs will be tested and if he's rather soft there, which I think he is, it won't take much power but I just a few well placed rib shots to put him on his ass. I am clearly rooting for Cotto, but I cant deny that the fight can go either way.

It will be a catch weight fight also. Canelo is not ready for the full 160lbs yet.

I agree, but I don't know if it will happen immediately after. I think Canelo will wait, maybe have another fight or so and then have the GGG fight.

Ward vs GGG imo is a bigger fight. I would love to see that one.

I doubt Cotto fights GGG. Whether it's his choice, Roc Nation's or Freddy's.
