Jeff is spot on. Playing the villain only works if you keep beating the good guys, so people keep paying to see you lose. Once you get clearly beaten twice, there's not much more interest. Sure, he can have a Ricardo Mayorga/Zab Judah career, where he'll keep getting fights because he can sell a fight and it's always pleasing to see them get beat. However, that can only get you so far and soon the promoters start using you as a gatekeeper for other rising fighters to build their name, in other words you'll get fed to the wolves for a pretty penny every fight. He'll probably keep getting nice paydays but his days as a perceived top fighter would be over.
If Broner wants to change things around, he'll need to change his fighting approach and training team (which he probably won't). He's got a lot of talent and if he follows the career paths of Cotto and Maidana he can find new success with a new fighting approach and team. If I'm training Broner, I want him using that hand speed and athleticism to fight like a young Shane Mosley not an old version of Mayweather.Last edited by _original_; 07-24-2015, 02:22 PM.Comment

Broner could have been much better, if he had done more fighting and less talking. He keeps this up and he will turn into tomato can or cab driver status.Comment

Broner was the classic cart before the horse situation. After the Rees fight, the powers that be started trying to manufacture events for AB instead of letting him build a resume. Had he stayed at lightweight, he'd still be undefeated and considered an elite fighter. If, he stayed clear of Terrance Crawford. Malignaggi was the perfect mark to manufacture an event. Can't punch, had a belt, and could sell the hell outta an event. We'll never know for sure. But I think the move to 47 was strictly about building up an opponent for Floyd to fight in his final fight. The big bro/lil bro stuff was the ground work. They were gonna have a falling out. Then they would play up the teacher vs the student angle. And promote it as a changing of the guards type fight.Comment

Ok. Enough is enough. Broner was overhyped and all but Floyd's pops and uncles are the last one's that need to be talking about riding coat tails.
Broner accomplished more as a professional fighter than Sr. and Jeff combined. Roger can talk because he had a great boxing career himself.
That doesn't change the fact that what Jeff Mayweather said is true. Neither Jeff or Senior ran their mouths like Broner does and it looks ****** and meaningless when he loses his biggest fights convincingly. Mayorga made a career out of that but as a fighter he's overrated as hell.Comment
