There has been speculation that a middleweight unification tilt between WBA/IBO champion Gennady Golovkin and IBF belt-holder David Lemieux is being seriously negotiated by K2 Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
According to a couple of sources, things are moving along well and getting close to completion. This showdown would take place on October 17th at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. Tom Loeffler, the managing director, for K2 didn't say much other than to reiterate that Golovkin's goal was to unify the 160 pound division. In addition to the WBA strap, Golovkin is also the WBC interim champion.

You would think so, NY is an expensive place to fight due to taxes, especially for foreign fighters. Maybe MSG made an offer in exchange for rights to selling tickets like they did with Alvarez/Cotto. I wouldn't doubt Montreal is still in play.Comment

People are really over hyping this David Lemeiux, didn't he get stopped by Rubio? Golovkin and his team love to paint this "most feared boxer" image but they have shown nothing but the opposite. Lemieux need to fight someone else before GGG for me to even feel this is an actual fight. GGG shoud fight Lara or Ward, 2 men that called his bluff.Comment

They want to circle jerk the GGG mismatches in peace, with no one ever opposing the mismatches or having a different opinion to what is a good fight. I'm here to ruin their gay little bonfire and tell them Lemeiux is not a top guy and he will get stopped in 6 or less and GGG will not go through any danger at all. No not because GGG is so great, moreso Lemieux is average.Comment

lemieux will be the first current world title holder that golovkin has faced. this is a significant step on his path to stardomComment

I'm thinking GGG made the 50/50 offer across the board(Including weight, they both meet 50/50 on that too) because as the A side he figured it would just be fair. Now if Ward wants to accept 80/20 on the cash and have GGG at 168 that may work. See where this is going, Ward has NO FAN BASE and 98% of the fans will be Golovkin fans.Comment
