GGG played with Monroe like a bowl of yarn, but with Lemieux, there's too much risk in that. As long as he stays responsible, he'll put a serious hurting on Lemieux and chop him down round by round.

At a $60 price tag, if they sell 200k that's a $6mill pot for the fighters from the US ppv alone. At 300k buys it's a $9mill pot. HBO at the end of the year probably wouldn't put up more than $4mill for this fight. Golovkin pulls a million alone from selling his fights internationally. Lemieux did over a mill from Canadian ppv in his last fight. Moneywise they'll be fine. The question is should they put this fight in NYC or Montreal? I think Golovkin gets a special deal from MSG for fighting at the Garden & Forum. Having the fight in NY actually creates a media buzz for the fight.

If K2 is smart, they'll put T.Johnson/O'Kane on the undercard to build up the mando.
it's a shame that they have to limit their audience like that though. on normal hbo this probably draws 1.6-1.8m viewers, viewers who will surely want to tune in again in the future after witnessing golovkin on top form

if it is ppv, then they better assemble a quality undercard. johnson-o'kane sounds like a good idea (although i'd still prefer johnson-heiland), perhaps with gonzalez-segura topping the bill

They'll get big numbers on the replay the following week and there's always the potential that this fight is something special that warrants a major rematch.

I honestly don't think they'll get Gonzalez on the undercard for the reason you pointed out that he won't get as much exposure. His fight likely wouldn't get replayed on regular HBO. I see Golden Boy loading up the undercard. Being in MSG, you know Sadam Ali will be the co-main. Don't know if they'd use Jayson Velez here or on the Cotto/Alvarez card. Prelim fights could include their Irishmen Jamie Kavanagh & Jason Quigley and his fellow UK MW prospect Ogogo.

Sadam Ali vs. Algeri would be a solid co-main, and it helps that both guys are from NY. This is a way for Ali to begin comparing himself with the top guys, and if Algeri wins, he could parlay this into a match-up with Bradley. Kavanagh needs a step-up fight, maybe against Bogere?

Anyone who claims GGG has no or poor defense DKSAB or is simply a GGG hater, and there are a lot of them around here. Lemieux can hit hard, but he telegraphs his strongest shots and a decent fighter can see them coming from the cheap seats in the arena. Look at the Compubox stats - yeah, yeah, they aren't worth **** but they are all we got - to see that GGG usually outlands his opponents at least two to one. And if you look at collective stats you will see that he gets hit well under the average for MW fighters per fight and lands at a much higher percentage. His defense is just fine as Lemieux will discover when they meet in the ring.

I think he'll stay responsible and cautious. It's diffrnt than Stevens since his money shot was the counter left hook and all he had to worry about was not over committing and getting wreckless.
IMO, jab will be important here to keep T-Rex arms at length and not just toss jabs to windmill his way in.
