It's funny when you look at that list because people always say how horrible the division is when in reality it's really not. Golovkin or canelo takes it.

          Abraham
          Dirrell
          Taylor

They don't really look that different... 3 big name fighters apiece (red)
Lemiuex is like a more mobile version of Abraham (blue)
          Both lineups end weakly (orange)

A lot of the time how "strong" a division is just a matter of how heavily marketed it is.... Look at welterweight

That's what I'm saying, I don't see how they differ that much. I usually find people overrate smw to make Ward look better.

U can say that in hindsight sure. But when the super six was finalized, Ward was considered the least likely to win it. U guys are being extremely revisionist right now. And SMW was much deeper than even that. U had Bute, Bika, Johnson etc right under those guys. It was a extremely packed division in those years. Nothing like middleweight is now.

Ward being an unknown/underdog would actually mean the 168 supersix was even less impressive then, wouldn't it?

I guess the MW tournament would be higher profile then.

No, that doesn't mean that. That means the other fighters were highly looked upon champions and an extremely talented up in Comer in Dirrell. Froch is a hall of famer, Kessler eked out a pretty darn resume for himself. Even Dirrell is more talented than everyone on that list besides golovkin. Let's not do this. It's really no comparison. Ward did better than expected because he's a great fighter who rose to the occasion.

                    ummm based on?

                    http://boxrec.com/boxer/291903

His one notable win is via DQ after he got tagged and faked a seizure

He deserves some credit for a close fight with Froch

                    but:
