Klitschko is top 3 heavyweight of all times for sure. It`s just because of his sizes and athleticism. Only prime Lennox would beat him, IMO.

Most of those "18" defenses were of a PAPER title. Wlad has only defended the LINEAL title 3 times whereas Holmes defended it 12 times. Holmes' record is in NO danger of being broken by Wlad...

lots of people, including ring magazine, gave wladimir recognition as the "lineal" champion when he beat chagaev. they had to make a special exception, because the second best HW was vitali, and the brothers were not going to fight.


under a vacant lineage, you have a box off between the two top fighters in the diviison to reestablish lineage. in this case, lineage was vacated by vitali when he retired because of injury. the fight between the top two guys couldn't take place, so wladimir and chagaev boxed for the vacant ring belt.


that's hwo i remember it, anyway. it was six years ago, after all. that gives wladimir around 10 defenses of the lineage as recognized by ring magazine [the belt that used to determine lineage according to most, but that was recently bought by a promotor, and has less clout.]
