If its not a high profile fight, its probably best not to announce it until the last minute.

It's still an event that needs to be promoted, ESPECIALLY if its a low profile fight like a Berto fight.

Big fights like Pac will do what they do, whenever they are announced.

Fighting Berto with absolutely no promotion is a recipe for absolutely garbage PPV numbers.

I think Floyd is choosing to make far less money at the to the advantage of being roasted and slammed less by press and fans. Makes sense.

Promoting the Berto fight would be embarrassing and humiliating, Floyd made enough off the Pac fight that he won't go through that for a few extra dollars.

Its not going to be promoted as Berto fighting Mayweather next. But as "Mayweather's last fight/farewell fight". His opponent almost doesnt matter at this point. I think his fans will pay to see his "last" fight.

The way things are going he may announce the opponent at the weigh-in.

Whether Mayweather-Berto was announced the day after May 2nd or close before the fight I doubt the PPV would do any better.
