I agree. I'm watching it no matter what. But damn, someone should be fired if that fool fights orthodox for 2 hours in a movie titled "Southpaw" haha.

I really don't care why they made it or who they targeted. I'll watch it. Just like I'll watch a random movie about blacks overcoming bs in a sport we aren't accustomed to seeing them participate in

Ima skip this one & wait for the vinny paz movie, Bleed For This, to come out.
I don't like how they got a guy that's like 6"1 to play 5"7 Vinny, but it looks good so I'll watch.

Yeah, but they also had Walburgh playing Ward. If I'm not mistaken, he dwarfs Mickey Ward.

          Hollywood, doe.

Of the three released or pending boxing movies I know of, one (Southpaw) features a white protagonist, one (Hands of Stone) features a Latino and one (Creed) features an African American.

Of the 16 screens at the theater closest to me, 100 percent of the non-animated movies feature whites in lead roles.

I really don't get the point, except that every post OP makes is about race.

Nah,they were both 5"8 and from the Boston area, but like you said it's Hollywood. In the Creed trailer at one point the guy is fighting Gabe Rosado and and at the next moment he's fighting Toney Bellew.

The Race of the fighter don't bother me, I guess because I'm a huge Jake Gyllenhaal Fan

Hollywood just prefer White Leads because they feel they can make more money Globally when it is a White Lead in their movies.

A Proper Mike Tyson move is on the way being directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Jamie Foxx so that could be a step. Still waiting for the Robert Duran movie, haven't heard anything about it not sure what is going on.

Yeah,I don't know Jamie Foxx is 47 and I just don't know how believable it's going to be seeing him play a twenty something iron mike.

Best boxing movies have been about white boxers

Rocky, Cinderella man, the fighter, raging bull

But I think it has more to do with the underdog story that appeals more to movie goers

kind of like remember the Titans, glory road was about black athletes in the underdog role

Yeah but a black African-American is directing the movie so it evens out.

Plus Jake may seem "White" on the surface but his ethnic background does not support that. He's actually ***ish.
