Originally posted by BIGPOPPAPUMP View PostDon Haskins Center, El Paso, Texas - Mexican star Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) bounced back with a win, by winning a ten round unanimous decision over his much smaller countryman Marcos Reyes (33-3, 24 KOs) at a catch-weight of 171-pounds. The scores were 97-92, 98-91 and 96-93.
It was Chavez's first bout since the April stoppage loss to light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara.
From the start, it was very evident that Chavez Jr. was much bigger and much stronger than Reyes. Chavez Jr. was doing damage to the head and seemed to hurt Reyes with a big left hook to the body in the second round. Chavez was pressing Reyes against the ropes and unloading with punches.

Chavez hits harder than any fighter GGG has ever faced. Chavez has a good chin. Give Garcia some time and Chavez the benefit of the doubt - him missing weight was just a function of their scale being off.

As others have already noted, but which cannot be noted enough, Rafael is not being paid to make weight nor is he making millions of dollars from covering the fight. He can weigh 500 pounds if he wants, it's not healthy but it's his choice.
Word. Moreover, there's no poster here who couldn't learn to write more clearly and persuasively by studying Rafael's columns/reports/chats. Whether you agree with his comments or not. Same goes for guys such as Kevin Iole and Doug Fischer.

It took Robert Garcia four fight camps to take the Maidana that he got and turn him into the Maidana that he became (working behind the jab, moving his head on the way in/out, working in the occasional half-step, some defensive awareness, all in addition to his own rugged natural style).
If Chavez Jr comes back, give Robert Garcia 2-3 more camps before making a judgement.
