There are widespread reports that former welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23KOs) will be the next opponent for WBC/WBA champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Berto is rumored to be the selection of choice if Mayweather - according to the rumors - steps away from the pay-per-view model where he's fought for the last ten years - and fights on network television (at no cost to viewers) on CBS.

Absolutely true. I remember when Khan was a joke fight. Now there are a bunch of guys saying its not only a legit fight, but Khan wins or Mayweather is scared. Mayweather makes boxing fans lose brain cells.Comment

Al Haymon managed to get a second-rate fighter named Andre Berto $1 million to fight cab drivers for several years on HBO, and as a result, more than 150 other fighters looking for million dollar paydays against cab drivers signed with Haymon and he was able to create a boxing dynasty called PBC.
Berto deserves your praise, not your criticism!Comment

I am sure that I could do some research and find 10 posts of yours within the last year where YOU said brook was a terrible choice and Mayweather shouldn't choose him, or something along those lines. Now, all of a sudden, you think differently and you are questioning my sobriety!:*******:Comment

Only way this makes sense is if he does fight on CBS because no chance people buy this on PPV. It will tank and do worst then the Maidana and Guerrero fights did which all lost money for Showtime. Berto beat two bum opponents and prior to that lost back to back fights. He's not on any credible top 10 welterweight list. Has no title and no fanbase. Even in his hype train prime which was 5 years ago he wasn't a box office draw. It's impossible to sell this as a real fight especially on PPV. I don't see how Mayweather turns down 30 plus mil guaranteed contract that Showtime gave him to fight on CBS rather then Showtime PPV. And I don't see how CBS can afford to pay him anywhere near that amount if the fight is not on PPV. Unless CBS is willing to take a massive loss just for the press of Mayweather fighting on their network.
This is a glorified exhibition fight. It's like paying huge money to air the NBA Champs face the NBA D-League team in a preseason game. If this is the level of fights Mayweather wants then just retire. And anybody Showtime or CBS that pays for this is just a foolComment
