forrest was considered unknown by the time he won his first world title, he hadn't beat the kind of guys that made the WW division exciting in his time until that fight with mosley, no one was really clinging to him especially considering the guys at WW around his time were Trinidad Quartey DLH Mosely and etc. and i only reached back to show you the depth to where haymon entered the market and one of the first fighters he put his stock behind that ended up being successful. if haymon fails, he fails, point blank, but wishing on failure is setting yourself up for failure. truthfully I'm into all these guys being good and competing bc well all get good fights. picking the lesser evil is just gonna tear this sport apart.

The promotion is terrible. The production is terrible. The matchups have been mostly terrible. Not as great as I thought it'd be.....also is it just me or is promotion for these events going down?
Initial NBC show, stuff was everywhere... then, to me, I saw less and less over the next two NBC primetime shows.....
For this, I heard there wasn't even that much local promotion for the fight in Tampa
I guess it's cool that it's "free boxing" or whatever, but I'd much rather watch these guys on HBO in some barn burner type fights with ring girls, ring walks, and Lamps, Max, and Roy on the call.Comment

The only "negativity" is on sites like this where cranky old bastids have nothing better to do than whine about Haymon. If you read the tea leaves this is going to end bad for PBC. They are simply spending too much money for a bad product. They are over spending and outbidding themselves for fight purses. I get it they are overpaying to try and lure away talent from other promoters to stomp out the competition and once they do that they have all the talent and can readjust/lower the price and purses. But in the meantime that means these events are super expensive. But they have rank armatures running it. For example for half the budget HBO puts out a far superior looking program. So you have something with insane costs but still comes off as cheap and poorly executed. PBC has had multiple fights where a guy gets knocked down and they can't even que up the knockdown after the round or show you a crappy camera angle of the knockdown and you have to wait 2-3 rounds later in the fight to finally see the knockdown or a proper angle. They can't even get you punch stats after a round. Simple things like this that HBO, Showtime handles flawless.
Also can anyone actually say that the PBC brand is growing? I can't if anything it's under fire with tons of criticism from fans and media. The tv ratings prove that a lot of casual fans tuned in at first because it was new/unknown and since then they are leaving not coming back to see it again. Lawsuit are mounting which question whether what Haymon is doing is even legal. Haymon banned tons of long standing boxing media members from his events. That's right many top boxing writers are not even granted press passes to PBC events because they have written or said something critical about Haymon's practices so they aren't allowed. Imagine any other major sporting league where if somebody writes something critical is barred from covering the event. In a short time there is a lot of negativity surrounding PBC and that plus all these mismatches and the poor quality of the production hurts the PBC brand.
The end game I see is PBC cutting a large check to settle the lawsuits and that combined with all the money they are losing forcing them to close up shop. They just can't keep throwing money away at this rate for too long
In the world of casual boxing fans, PBC had a tremendous reception..Comment

Stop comparing other sporting events with lowers costs and who have networks paying them. And also have TV Sponsors. PBC doesn't have a tv deal they pay the networks for the air time and have bad ratings and no tv sponsors. So once the contracts end (and that's assuming PBC doesn't fold before that) what network would be dumb enough to buy PBC and pay for a TV deal? PBC can't draw TV sponsors and pays too much for purses and can't fill stands. If things continue like this no network is going to buy thisFFS, the WNBA has a TV deal OK. PBC does better than non-playoff NHL games and the NHL has a deal with NBC worth $200mm a year. Regular-season MLB games outdraw NHL playoff games for God's sake.
Haymon will walk away with a very nice TV deal and this handwringing will be for naughtComment

So you think the UFC (the most direct comparison league to what PBC seems to be trying to establish) would be better if instead of 90% of the top MMA guys under one company they were spread out widely like in boxing? I don't get how people can suggest having most fighters under one outfit's regime wouldn't be better than the cluster**** of issues that prevent fights now from promoters, TV affiliations, alphabet groups & so on.Comment

Agreed. I keep hearing people say, "I dont care about that stuff. I just want fights!"
I hear them, but I think part of boxing is the pomp and circumstance of the event. When you watch a fight on HBO or even Showtime, there's this build up. Whether it's Buffer or The Classy Jimmy Lennon, the announcer serves to frame the ensuing battle.
It's hard to explain, but when it's missing, you get the feeling that something is just not right.Comment

Really? if that is so then why are the TV ratings falling? PBC makes more noise in casual sites for all the wrong reasons like when the news release of 2 lawsuits spread out over a month hit and when news release of poor tv ratings. Die hard boxing fans have been blasting the quality. Casual fans either have ignored PBC or tune in to read about how they are getting sued and are potentially crooked.Comment

I know man. The point is networks WILL buy them to be honest. Irregardless of what you think about Haymon, he's going to get a TV deal aside from total incompetenceStop comparing other sporting events with lowers costs and who have networks paying them. Oh big deal.Every deep-pocketed entity gets lawsuits. It's why lawyers exist.Really? if that is so then why are the TV ratings falling? Ratings are decent. Not spectacular but what did people expect? It would overtake the NFL? It's actually doing quite well relative to expectations..Comment
