  • Comments Thread For: Pavlik Regrets Martinez Bout: Should Have Gone To 168

Former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34KOs) regrets his decision to accept a fight against Sergio Martinez in April of 2010.

Pavlik was a big favorite to win, but behind closed doors he was struggling to make the middleweight limit of 160-pounds.

He was outboxed and took punishment in the later rounds, as Martinez won a unanimous decision and captured the WBC/WBO world titles.

Pavlik's career could have gone on a little longer if he had just taken better care of himself. Like they said in the movie "A Bronx Tale," the saddest thing in life is wasted talent.

He's done and better off in a Youngstown pub.

So he was too small to beat hopkins at 170 but too big to beat martinez at 168?

Pavlik is a low drunk and an alcoholic who lost it all

Shame on Pavlik for ruining a decent career with Booze and giving up boxing. Pavlik had no support around him family wise with greedy mooches draining away all of kelly's cash. Jack Loew was a terrible trainer who was a better street paver. Pavlik brought this destruction on to himself and had zero family support.

He wasn't too small vs Hopkins, he was too unskilled.

Just like when people say Broner's not a WW. BS, he's as big as any WW, he just needs to have a size advantage over his opponent to be any good. Same with Rios as well.
