From what I remember of Darius winning 2 belts off of Hill, the WBA had a mandatory due and the IBF had one too. He didn't want to fight them so soon so while the fight was being marketed as unification fight Darius was set to dump the belts after the fight.

As for the Jones fight I remember reading stories about the demands of the two camps and both were crazy. For Jones to come to Germany he wanted heavyweight champion money ie 20 million. Without PPV in Germany a purse like that could never happen.

Also Darius demanded an inflated purse to come to America. Jones knew he never needed Darius for validation so he never was willing to budge on his end. In truth Kohl didn't want to lose his box office draw. Look what happened to Kohl when K2 was formed shortly after Vitali won the WBC belt.
