  • Comments Thread For: Vargas Furious: Referee Cost Me Knockout of Tim Bradley

Jessie Vargas is planning to file a protest over Saturday's HBO televised outcome against former two-division champion Timothy Bradley. They clashed before a crowd of 4,711 in attendance at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The scores were 117-111, 116-112 and 115-112.

After losing the majority of the rounds, Vargas managed to badly hurt Bradley in the final minute of the fight. As he went after Bradley with an aggressive attempt to finish him off, referee Pat Russell jumped between to prevent Vargas from throwing further punches and raised his hands to wave off the action.

vargas cost himself throughout the entire fight. then when he had bradley hurt. he started reaching for the body. what kind of crap is that. he should've gotten close and ripped the body then go upstairs .what happend with the ref was a honest accident.the crowd was very loud.

And if anyone wants to know how fan ******ity contributes to boxing? Here is a situation where an official not only makes an error, but admits to the error. Meanwhile judges rob fighters everyday....when has Adeline Byrd admitted to making mistakes as a judge?

So while fans are jumping on this guy? Judges are robbing fighters with impunity.

It's understandable that he'd be furious.

Honestly, if anyone cares to review the tape they will/should see that Bradley was pretty much clear headed as he clinched with SEVEN seconds remaining. In no way do I believe that Vargas would've scored a kayo. This wasn't another Chavez vs Taylor situation by NO means, nor was Bradley reeling nor defenseless.

This seems pretty obvious, the fight was improperly stopped before it's completion. This is a clear undisputed fact admitted to by the person responsible, Pat Russell, the referee officiating the bout. As the rules were clearly violated it is irrelevant whether one believes Vargas would have knocked out Bradley or not, and the commission has but one remedy and no choice other than to declare a no contest and order an immediate rematch.

While I will always believe that you have to give a guy a chance, no way in hell does Vargas knock Bradley out. Now Vargas is parading around pretending like he was about to knock out Bradley when we all know you basically have to shoot Bradley to get him out of there, he simply has too much heart. I understand his frustration but he is making too much out of his only moment of success in the whole fight.

LOL, no he didn't. If the ref doesn't jump in, Vargas is hugged for another three or four seconds, they're broken up, and the fight ends before they can throw another punch. Maybe the ref doesn't break them up at all.

Bradley was hurt, but he wasn't defenseless. He easily would have survived.

These kind of huge refereeing errors are simply not to be allowed. It's terribly bad for the sport.

i agree that he was likely to finish the fight, probably without being knocked down.

still, the ref made a huge mistake. we can't say with certainty that bradley would have finished the fight. when a fighter is rocked like that, particularly in the last round, big shots that he took during the fight can either put him down or out.
