Comments Thread For: Thurman Shakes Head at Mayweather Offering Spence

WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman (25-0, 21KOs) is gunning for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), who holds the WBO, WBC, WBA 'super' welterweight titles.

Mayweather has shown little interest. Instead, Mayweather offered Thurman a good position the undercard of his scheduled return, on September 12th at the MGM Grand, against up and comer Errole Spence Jr. (17-0, 14KOs).

Spence got an impressive victory last Saturday when he easily knocked out Phil Lo Greco in three rounds at the MGM Grand.

It makes no sense for thurman. Spence is like 3 steps backward at this point. No money, no reward, no recognition if he beats a guy who hasn't even fought a C level fighter. Oh and he is also dangerous.

Thurman is one of the best WW's today and should be fighting the other best WW's not an untested prospect.

Keith's got to decline Spence, one time.

I agree for the most part.

People need to think about Spence, forget the whooping he gave FLoyd, Spence still a kid, putting him against Keith Thurman, a guy true boxer puncher, is way too early.

Thurman has so many potential matchups on the horizon, fighting a common opponent in Guerrero to fighting a prospect is a HUGE step backwards

Why does Thurman keep referring to him as 'kid' and 'the boy'? Doesn't he know they are the same age?

Experience. He's a kid to h in because he's only been a pro a couple years.

There will be a belt on the line, he will fight on the Mayweather under card which will give him a lot of exposure and also get paid good. It's a win win situation for Thurman and he shouldn't let his ego rule him, there are enough sweeteners in this deal.

Thought Thurman was a guy who prided himself on taking all comers and said he had an '0' and wasn't afraid to let it go? Seems to of changed his tune.

Didn't say a single word when Lara called him out either.

Just another overpaid lout who loves the sound of his own voice who is continually fighting a load of feather-fisted opposition and backtracking.

This post is the birth of, "Thurman is a ducker!"

                  Watch.

EDIT: BTW Guerrero is feather-fisted? Damn you're crazy.

                    Thurman made the right call.

But i would of said "dont duck me by putting spence as your shield, man up dawg , do your dirty work yourself like a real boss or keep my name out your mouth and fight a soft touch and retire already".
