Spence is a beast. He is ready. He says he is ready. He looks ready. He spars with the best. He is widely considered in the industry as the next super star. Why in the fug should he not go for a big fight and make a statement?

He's 25. Was Mayweather, or any other great fighter holding back until freaking 25? No.

I think there are just a lot of fan boys here, whose lame fanboyness is more important to them than good fights. On both sides. Thurman fans who are afraid he gets his ass kicked, and Spence fans who don't want to see him lose, and just fight soft opponents. Both of them are pathetic.

This is one of the absolute best matchups in years. Brilliant and mouth watering.
I always prefer when younger guys take the time to develop, but hard to argue with you in that regard. I still think hes 18 months away yet.

Welter is real frustrating to me, nobody is making any real moves, despite 147 being stacked with contenders. Point in case, Mayweather has no clear 147lb'er for September.

Mayweathers schedule is set in stone, and has been apparent for years..... and yet not one welter made serious moves to grab that September payday. Not one welter attempted two good back-to-back wins, except maybe Brook.

But even Brook doesnt deserve that fight, beating Porter is not enough. The fact that Khan avoided him doesnt mean he had to settle for Gavin.

Thurman/Brook/Khan, and even Porter.... are still at least one good win away.

The difference is that Keith has been calling out actual champions because he wants a real belt. Champions are going to be called out by lesser opponents because they are the champ!

Why is some up and comer calling out a contender/prospect in Keith? Keith needs to be moving forward, not going back. He's done enough to get a big fight. Haymon needs to be setting Keith up for a big fight for a real belt, I think he's paid his dues.

Spence and Thurman don't have history. You guys on this site run away with these rumors too often.

The guy Spence hasn't really fought anyone. So he needs to step up his comp to try and go for someone who's already stepped up their comp slightly. It's not like Thurman has been out here beating the best. His toughest fight was Guerrero. Come on dude. Recently Guerrero got a decision gift wrapped for him vs some unknown guy I have no interest in remembering. He got his ass whooped the whole fight. Yeah that was Thurman's toughest test. So I guess I retract my statement. This fight would make sense on that level. Since neither one of these guys has fought anyone noteworthy yet.

            I agree man !

I dont see too much of a difference between Thurman and Spence at all.

Folks act like Thurman is a vet who has paid his dues.

Thurman is not an established world-beater with a difficult style, and Spence is an outstanding young fighter. That matchup is closer than people are making out.

But it wouldn't hurt to give Spence more time.

Love Spence. Browne and him are my favorites from the 2012 US Olympic team.

I really like Spence, have always thought he'd perform best as a pro. Having said that, I don't think he's quite ready for a Thurman fight. He's not far off if he keeps fighting and learning as he is now. I feel Spence has a higher ceiling than Thurman from what I've seen of both guys so far. Spence will only get bigger and stronger, more skillful on both sides offensive and defense. The champ has great confidence in him because he's seen him in the gym, knows work ethic is a huge part of what happens on fight night. I kinda like that Floyd wants this young man to push forward, reminds me of another former Olympian who went on to be the best fighter pound for pound in the world. Nobody ever got to be the best by aiming to be mediocre. Plus, who else do we really have to root for? Adrien Broner?
