I don't see Ward being worth his asking price. It's no wonder HBO had enough of him. Coming back after almost 2 years of inactivity in a tune-up fight, and still making 2 mil. If Jay-Z is willing to pay it more power to him, but I don't see it as a wise investment. I can't imagine how much Ward will demand when he actually fights live competition.Comment

It is a necessary investment even if Ward isn't a PPV draw. Assuming Ward has not rusted, he will be the second best boxer in the world; the best once Mayweather retires. Having him builds the prestige of his promotional company.I don't see Ward being worth his asking price. It's no wonder HBO had enough of him. It's why Showtime would have been prepared to take some losses when signing Mayweather. They needed to improve their reputation of having the best fighter on their network.Comment

I get that. It just feels a bit early to me to be throwing that kind of cash at him. Maybe he lost something in that down time. Still I get that Jay-Z wants to become a big player in the sport, and he's willing to take the gamble. It is a necessary investment even if Ward isn't a PPV draw. Super 6 doe!!!!!! When you look at how infrequently he fights, you have to wonder if he doesn't plan it out like this to prolong his career, thinking he will take less damage over the long haul.Comment
